At least the sentences made syntactical sense, never mind the scrambled characters. This is among the many similar examples that illustrate our brains' ability to recognize patterns and unscramble seeming gibberish, but, I don't think that this would so easily be read if there were no context, i.e., if these assemblages of characters were not in some recognizable syntactical order, and just randomly arrayed.

I have a little book of "Mensa" puzzles, which features some similar arrangements of characters from which deductions must be made. In every case, there is a pattern, which, if perceived, "cracks" the code and solves the puzzle. I find this ability fascinating --- it is apparently one of many important evolutionary developments distinguishing homo sapiens from our similarly simian ancestors ...

I showed it to my wife. She read it in a split second. No hesitation. Of course she is also much smarter than I am, so maybe that explains it. She's smarter than just about anyone else I've ever known. She can read me like a book!
