Humpback hammer

I am sure that was the norm. I could only speculated how some ODs ended up with grooved HBHs

I do recall reading an old thread where it was mentioned that on occasion S&W did ship out some HBH ODs in 22 that were not ordered io have them. Maybe they just wanted to get some in stores? When they did there was not a extra charge for them. I will try looking for that thread.

The most recent thread I've seen was an order for 250 RMs for the Kansas City PD. All ordered with HB hammers but letter did not mention it.

FYI:

There's at least one slightly used K frame HB hammer for sale at one of the usual parts sources if anyone is interested. Price, wait for it........ $475.

If anyone is interested please PM for the link.

I have no "dog in this hunt".

Well guys, i'm throwing my 2 cents in and stating that if you got a S&W that was not a RM and it had a serrated HBH, then that is what they had at the time and probably were not going to slow up the delivery of an order because they didn't have any smooth. This one was shipped July 1940 to the City of Galveston, TX and has seen better days, but the good news is it is all numbered including the grips and box!

All the other HBH HDs and ODs I own/have owned have smooth sided HBHs. If anyone would like to see those, let me know and I'll post them.
Enjoy!

I have no doubt that you are correct!
