Some IMI and Winchester 9mm Ammo(made for the Army's Modular System Guns) that is listed at, I think, at 1340 fps would fall into the +P category.
Although my P365 paperwork says nothing that I can find about +P ammo it would seem that a steady diet would be hard on a small gun like that. Also think a little hard on your hand. I am not concerned about loading for self defense, just extended use.
What is your opinion?

I believe this clip from the P365 manual covers it…

Always use ammunition that complies with the industry performance standards established by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute, Inc. (SAAMI) or ammunition manufactured to military specifications.

Graydon,

I have both a P320 and a P365, and I can appreciate where you are coming from. However, the P365 is extremely similar to the P320 (which is essentially an M17/M18) in both design and construction. Using that hot ammo in either platform would (I think) result in similar damage. While it may be safe, it may not be wise over the long run.

I carry +P in my P365 after running a couple mags thru for a function check and it ran fine. Use standard ammo for range use. I agree using +P on a regular basis on any sub-compact could cause damage but in a self defense situation better to risk damage to the gun than lose the fight.

The gun is rated for +P, which is a SAAMI ammo category, as approved in the factory manual. Your hand will take a beating far more than the pistol will.
As an aside, some people shoot +P+ , which is NOT a SAAMI or military standard, thus NOT approved by the manufacturer. This can cause accelerated wear, but seldom actually blows up the gun. I have seen very overpressure Major Power 9mm (made for special competition guns) fired in ordinary pistols at the range, and some of them were severely damaged.
It pays to understand what SAAMI ratings mean and how they relate to military NATO 9mm (which is generally similar to our +P, but not exactly).

We covered NATO 9mm ammo velocity a few days ago. Those numbers for US NATO rounds are based on a 7.75"? barrel. Surely not going to get that out of a tiny 365 barrel. BBTI - Ballistics by the Inch :: 9mm Luger Results

And I say "US" because IMI runs a plant filled with Winchester equipment following their processes/procedures. Olin has a "Strategic Business Alliance" with IMI.

the ammo box might state 1300 fps...........

but if you take the old Federal 115 LE load ment for a 4" barrel
on one site out of a Glock 19, this load only averaged 1236 fps.

On another site test into gel, this load was tested with three barrel lengths.
a 3" barrel delivered 1184 fps.
a 4" put out 1320 fps and a 6" barrel did 1407 fps.

This load is stated to be a +P+ loading for LE personel only.
It may well be but these figures show the loads tested out to fall into the +P
pressure zones, in the weapons used.

I would feel safe, shooting a 115 gr. JHP out of a 4" barrel at 1330 fps
if just for testing and SD work and not for your long target shooting sessions.

However some may think that a load over 1300 fps with this weight bullet might be over pressure
for their weapon and deceide not to use it, which is fine.

After all, SAFETY and peace of mind of your ammo and weapon is #1.

As a note;
With my 3.5" C9 I can get a 115 gr plated FMJ to do 1263 fps with Unique powder.
Even higher speeds with slower burning powders but these bullets
are only rated for 1250 fps by the company.

I think that I will Just use Hornady Critical Defense in the P365. Probably never need to use it in self defense but if needed and I do my part it should work.
My old hands don't need anymore beating than that.
