I do almost everything around the house. Plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, all mechanical repairs to home, car and equipment - etc. I only pet peeve is gardening! I'd almost rather go to the Dentist - lol.

We have almost everything done here for us by our HOA. They maintain the lawn, trees, bushes, fertilize, mulch, apply week killers and pest control for mosquitos, etc and they actually do a very good job over all. About the only thing they do not do is plant our garden annuals and perennials in our garden. They would have maintained our garden had we left what the builder had planted however that was nothing exiting - all green - no color! No matter how much we water, feed and care for some of the plants and flowers I wind up replacing at least 2 per month. Many simply can not handle the heat we've been having this Summer and some are more fragile than others. Add on top of that I can't stand doing that kind of stuff and refuse to research how to do it properly - just not my thing!! What I have been doing is replacing all the more fragile flowers with hardy plants and thankfully there are some that have lots of color.

So far I have cut 2 sprinkler lines and one gutter drain line - LOL!! Yea, I fixed them but when it's 98ºF that makes it a real chore. This is just one thing I have zero patience for! I've even offered the Community landscapers money on the side but they are fearful they will get caught and lose their jobs - understandable. SO..... I will have probably replaced almost all of the fragile flowers with plants by the end of the Summer and can't wait until I do not have to deal with this stuff in the Fall!!

There are private landscapers as well, but they do not want to be bothered to do only a couple of small plants. When ever my wife mentions something about the garden, I want to hide - LOL!! It's just about the only chore I hate, hate, hate!

So what is your least favorite thing that you have to do?

The following sounds made up, but it is the truth. I had to take care of a 2-acre lawn growing up. So many outdoor adventures were missed because of that lawn. Got married and wife wanted a lawn and garden. The first time she insisted I mow, well I moved everything, Flowers, rosebushes everything. Was she ever upset with me. She replanted and I re-mowed. Mad for several days before she got over it. Been married 52 years and was never asked to mow another lawn.

I understand, I also dislike any kind of gardening. My wife loves it. She has all kinds of flowers plants, shrubs, etc. She is out there nearly every day doing something, I know not what. We also have an HOA and the grass is cut, snow cleared, etc. We do do our own watering, and a lot of residents don't water and the yards show it, we water and have green grass all summer.

Wrangling our studded snow tires twice a year. PA has a law restricting their use to 1 Nov to 15 Apr. We've got four cars, two Toyota sedans and two Toyota SUVs. One sedan is with my college student an hour-and-a-half away. The ice studs are really necessary in the moutainous rural area where we live. Now that I am 75, the chore is really becoming a CHORE.

I am a do-it-yourselfer too, now that we're in Arizona there is no lawn to mow or snow to shovel so that's good. Other then that it's a toss-up between plumbing and painting. It seems like I have to do way more plumbing then I should, and if I wanted to be a plumber I probably would have made a lot more money then I did before I retired!

Those are some first world problems Chief. The time of you you plant is even more important inFlorida to prevent shock. Also you have to make sure plants are compatible with the amount of sun/shade they are receiving……. And in the end remember, Miracle Grow is your friend.

We have a small, suburban property and have some lawn service guys that come once a week, trim the grass (unless we ask them not to), trim plants as they need it, rake leaves and keep lawn edges neat. Typically there are two or three of 'em and they are in and out in about 15 minutes.

My wife will occasionally plant plants or want to trim trees or bushes beyond what the yard guys do, so I'll help occasionally with that although I don't like it.

In general, my view is that I've worked too long and too hard to be taking up yard work at this point in life.

I don't think there are any regular chores that I feel I have to do that I actively dislike, but that is probably because I don't do a whole lot of chores. Not that much to do, really, with just the two of us. Don't mind sharing things like vacuuming, dishwashing, bed making, cooking, etc., with the wife. I won't do it all, but I'll do my bit.

I'm now 81, and in the past year I've come to detest, yea, even fear any task that's done below knee high. I'm lucky I still have the strength to get down there and back up at my age, but I pay a penalty when I do. Every muscle in my legs screams in pain getting back up, I mean pain bad enough I actually dread it when I have no choice but to get down on the floor to do something that must be done. I even gather myself to stand up from the table after sitting for a while, because I know how much it's going to hurt.
Pre leg pain, I used to hate to iron and clean windows. Like the drill sergeant said "Men you don't have to like it - you just have to do it" so I ironed and cleaned windows for decades.

My wife actually likes to mow the yard. I keep up the maintenance on it, but she’s pretty rough on mowers. We’ll go about three seasons before having to get a new one. Well worth the cost:D

My wife came from a large family, like 14 kids, and maintaining a large garden was a way of life for her as she grew up. My self, I don't like a garden, just too easy to buy from the grocery store, and she was more than willing to adapt to my philosophy. We mow about an acre but it has been set up so that trimming is at a minimum and with a zero-turn rider I can mow pretty fast. She dearly loved to mow but our yard is fairly rough and after a couple of back surgeries she had to give that up and that has been difficult for her.

The only time I enjoyed gardening was when I bought a new house and went to town on the dirt patch out back lol. New is fun, repair and maintenance are not. I’m currently watching the Japanese beetle grubs finish off my 4 yr old sod that replaced the 50 yr old lawn that they also destroyed …

The previous owner of the house I bought in Spokane had planted the best beefsteak tomatoes I've ever eaten. The sprouted every spring with no encouragement from me. I planted zucchini in the same area and they went wild also. All I ever did was water the spot occasionally. I'd take grocery bags of tomatoes and zucchini to work, and the young airmen scarfed them up. Well-fed troops are happy troops.
