I am a bit... "Embarassed".... It seems I may still have a touch of the "Snubbies". I thought I had been cured, or at least I was in remission....

It's barrel is just a bit longer than what I have in mind as a "snubby". However, if you observe the ratio of the bore to the barrel, I think it qualifies...?!? Yeah, I am certain it is a snubby....

S&W 629-5 Mag-Na-Port. The DA pull is smooth and like silk. Can somebody clue me in as to what stocks would have been original? I really don't like the rubbers, and want to set it right.

Yeah, I have it bad! Snubbies. I am just too embarassed to tell my wife. I fear I may suffer the malady for the rest of my life. (And my friend Dan is an enabler, probably not wishing me a cure! I should not tell him I am dreaming of that blued Lipsey's Ruger Flattop .45 Colt with the "ivory" grips, either! ...Oops.... )

A snubbie 44 Magnum -- seems like a contradiction in terms. Small hand cannon might be a better phrase! Good looking gun. Grips aren't bad though. I bet you will appreciate the rubber once you start shooting it. Have fun.

Sharp revolver, great catch.
As far as the grips go, I have seen these issued with both the pachs and S&W branded Hogues. Just checked the SCSW and they have both types pictured, though not on this EXACT model.
While it would look bitchin' with the S&W "combats" I'm not sure I'd be wanting to put too many rounds downrange with them fitted.

The problem is that I cannot use the large Pachs with the backstrap covered. My short boogerhooks cannot reach the trigger, causing me to rotate my hand and rely upon the first joint of my thumb to take the brunt of recoil. I need to change them anyway, and I want to have both the originals, and the ones that fit me.

I know what you mean, I have short fingers also. The K and L frames fit like a glove. Nice looking gun by the way!

Oh! I know what you mean about the compromise on grips. My own experience with 44 Magnums is that no matter what grip I use -- the next day my right hand is always sore and I have trouble playing the piano -- and that's after only a dozen or so shots. So I limit myself to 38 Specical, some .357 Magnum, 9MM and 45 ACP. 44 Magnum just is a step too far for me -- a man has to know his limitations.

My next revolver will be a 2 1/2"- 2 3/4" S&W 44 Mag of some sort.

Try the S&W combats. I've got a set on a 6" 629-2 and they beat all the others I've tried to shame. I've tried Hogues (rubber, nice but ugly) Pachmayr (Grippers & Presentations, not much better than the stock Targets and ugly).

Get yourself a set of Herretts Jordan Trooper stocks and go enjoy the gun. They're made for shooting heavy recoil guns, and are custom made to fit your hand, so you won't have trouble with the stocks being too big for your hand.
