The NRA was invited to participate in a town hall meeting with President Obama this coming Thursday night. The meeting was initiated by CNN. The NRA has refused to send representatives to the meeting, simply declining to participate.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told CNN, "The National Rifle Association sees no reason to participate in a public relations spectacle orchestrated by the White House."

Well, I can think of about five million reasons to participate. This is an organization millions of us support financially and in other ways.

This would have been an excellent opportunity for the NRA to confront the president directly...face to face...about Second Amendment issues instead of writing editorials and one opinion piece after another in its publications.

The opportunity to look the president in the eye and tell him exactly how we feel about 2A issues (in front of an audience of millions, no less) is a priceless opportunity, and should not be wasted. And make no mistake about it, there will be millions of people watching this.

Members of Bloomberg's group will also be there, in addition to representatives of the Brady organization. Pro-gun groups like the Gun Owners of America and the American Firearms Retailers Association have been invited to attend, although I've seen no reports as to whether they will or not.

I just don't understand this, though. This is a chance for our organization to question the president directly about our rights...on national television, in a meeting that will undoubtedly be seen around the world. But instead of standing up, it looks as if the NRA is standing down. Just backing away from the fight.

These comments of mine might not make some folks happy here. But these are our Second Amendment rights we're talking about here.

I'm not a member of the They're-Coming-To-Take-Our-Guns-The-Sky-Is-Falling crowd, but this apparent inaction by the NRA is just beyond my comprehension right now.

I'd be interested to hear what other members (of the forum and the NRA) think of this. Keep it politics-free and rant-free, please...because if you don't, the thread will get locked, no doubt about it.

I am not a member, but have been. Something about "jack-booted government thugs" caused me to stop giving them my money about 20 years ago. This stance by the NRA in not facing the President in an open forum removes one of the main reasons people trumpet for joining the NRA, that the NRA is our best and almost only voice. I would never join again, but now I can refute the entreaties of those wish me to join . . .

Get real.
You are like a platoon leader second guessing Ike while he's planning the Normandy Invasion.
Leave it to the Generals, and move your platoon when ordered.

CNN, Obama, Brady, and Bloomberg???
Do you seriously believe ANY of them want to hear anything we have to say?
I seriously doubt the NRA would get a fair chance at such a 'meeting'. The chances of being cutoff, talked over, ignored, manipulated, and soundbyted unfavorably are far more likely than any fair and objective process.
Planning the strategy in this fight is above my pay grade. I know that. I'll leave it to them to plan the battle and stay ready to do my part.

Custer's Crow scouts told him not to attack. "BIG village" and the "largest pony herd they had ever seen" was their report. When Custer advanced, most of the scouts did not move with him. Not riding into a certain and pointless death does not make them cowards. Riding into a certain and pointless death does not make Custer a hero.

Ancient history.
I've heard LaPierre admit it was a poor choice of words.
ATF in the late 80s and early 90s was often a loose cannon. Some of their raids and operations were highly questionable and crossed the line. It could be argued that some of them earned the term.
Get current on Ruby Ridge.
While not actually running the seige, the ATF had dealt very harshly with Weaver while trying to coerce him into being a snitch, and the DOJ/USAO acted with malice aforethought.

So, drop it.
The NRA is the only hope we have.
Keep whining if you want to, but find some place else to do it.
This forum won't be your platform for moaning and whining about the NRA or bashing the NRA.
That goes for everybody here.

I hope that came in loud and clear.
