I am not a Ruger fan

Nor am I a fan of the .40 S&W cartridge, but back in October I ran across this Ruger P94 .40 S&W for the righteous price of $202.00 and put it on lay-a-way. No box, one spare magazine and a Hogue grip sleeve. I paid off everything but the tax before the Christmas rush hit us at work, and I forgot about it. I walked in the shop Monday to look around and the manager asked if I were there to pick the Ruger up.

So I did. The serial number dates it to 2006. Other than a dirty barrel the gun is flawless. I hope to shoot it this coming weekend.

I picked up a S&W M&P fullsize 40 cal recently for 325 bucks with 3 mags and night sights. Box ect. And I really like it.

I am not an unqualified "Ruger fan" either, but I had a chance to look at their new Commander model .45 last evening. I have to say, great looking gun for the market/money. Good luck with your new pistol.

That's funny, you forgot about it and the manager had to jog your memory. If I told that around work, I would be ridiculed badly.

I have owned several Rugers over the years, mostly wheel guns, only 2 semi's very solid,strong well made firearms, a lot of "bang for the buck" as the only saying goes.
The Ruger .44 Mag Super Black Hawk may be stronger than a Model 29, with heavy loads.

Not a Ruger fan either, going back a few decades when Bill Ruger's company health insurance wouldn't cover injuries to helmetless MC riders in a State that didn't have a mandatory helmet law..Skiers, race car drivers, hockey players, skydivers and others in possibly injurious sports were ok for injury coverage, though...My written opposition to that seemingly discriminating policy was met by a "so what?" reply from them, with lots more words telling me it was none of my business .. So what? OK..I traded all my Ruger .22s in for stainless AMT clones and never looked back. You couldn't give me a Ruger since. On that note, I have been a Smith fan for a long time, just recently adding a 1911 SC-E to my collection of J, K, L and N frames, along with my M&P 15 rifles. Glad to see that my SWHC stock went up today too! (I might even break even this year!)

A Ruger P-series pistol feels a little like a can of sardines in the hand, but they have a fine reputation for durability and reliability. If that had been a 9mm for that price I'd have found the money somewhere.

....and on the plus side, if you run out of ammo in a gunfight you can always beat them to death with it - it's a Ruger after all!

Great buy! I'm a Ruger fan when it comes to their older guns. The new ones, no. I had a LC9 a while ago that went back to Ruger twice (extractor blew off and then sights fell off). Horrible gun, but the P series guns were great. I recently got a P97 DC and it's a beast. Shoots anything you feed it and it does make a great impact weapon.

I've got the same gun as the OP, and it's outstanding. Never fails...mine is stainless and cost $258. The decocker-safety is a little clunky, and the width is a little thick, but it feels good in the hand, at least with the rubber grips that came with it.

FYI, even though it says "P 94" on the side, my understanding is that the ones chambered in .40 are actually designated "P 944." So why didn't Ruger put P 944 on the slide? Who knows. Have fun. (I love all of my Ruger semi-autos.)

I have this in 9mm and just got a Hogue grip for it. MUST HAVE! Makes it so much better to hold! Highly recommend it.

"Maybe stronger?"" The ruger super Blackhawk, redhawk, super redhawks are stronger that the m29. Ill bet the security six in 357 is stronger too. I would never shoot my stout reloads out of my S&W n frames.

Pardon the thread drift, but my family has a very positive relationship with Sturm Ruger. I learned to shoot a handgun back in the mid-60s with my Dad's Mark I, as did my younger brother in the mid-70s. Loved that gun. My brother's boys have also learned safe handgun operation and marksmanship using that same Mark I.

At present, I own three Rugers: a Hawkeye M77 .30-06 RSI, a .22LR Single Six, and my most recent addition, a .357 magnum Ruger Montado that came home with me today. My wife saw my eyes light up when I held it at a LGS, and said it was an early Valentine's Day gift Ruger will always be part of my family. They make good guns, and good memories.

I love rugers! but not a 40 fan. The p series pistols are tanks, never should have sold mine!
