I bought an ugly Ruger

I stopped by a gun store today. They had lots of nice used guns in. I resisted temptation until I saw a sad looking Ruger P94 in 9mm. Rubber Hogue grips that are badly worn, Wear marks on the frame, the slide had been buffed to look chromed. It was dirty inside and only had a Pro Mag magazine in it. I found out it has the original case and a factory mag. Best thing was, it was priced at $199. Around here, even Hi Points don't sell that cheap.
I'll probably buy new grips, some Mec Gar mags, use the Pro Mag as a door stop, not sure what I'll do with the slide and frame. It's hard to pass up a solid gun like a Ruger P series at that price.

That's a about the going rate for a P94 in my area. The P series gun just don't sell that great and 40's are a hard sell. I agree they are ugly guns, but everyone I've ever fooled with has been reliable. It should make a nice truck gun.

Nothing wrong with a main brand gun that is known to be functionally sound for $200. There at least ten good reasons we should all own a couple like that. Nice purchase!

Lots of good prices on 40s now. Nothing wrong with the round either.

Granted that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I tend to have different taste than many others both in women and firearms in the way that I actually appreciate a more robust frame.

So Rugers, including the P-Series actually look good to be. Yeah, they're big and thick, but they've still got the aesthetically pleasing curves and contours. To me, the bulk of most Rugers is reassuring, they have the rugged look of a gun built for shooting, with aesthetics being a secondary concern.

The P95 is proof that you can overbuild a polymer pistol. No surprise it was Ruger that did it.

I have a stainless top metal 9mm P95 that I bought new at a gun
show back when they were in production. I only paid around
$250 for it. One of Ruger's best models ever. Too bad they
discontinued it.

The P series guns will grow on you, but for some reason, even the P89 (9mm) feels like you're holding an aerosol can. I bought this one brand new about '93 or '94. whenever they first came out. I shot it for years, adding more handguns along the way, when my StepFather asked me if I had 9mm that I would sell. All he owned for home defense was a Springfield '03 and an SKS. So I loaded up about 400 rounds and sold it to him with the promise he would give me the first buy-back option.

Well about 3 years ago he passed away suddenly. I had forgotten about it. Sometime later us three Chillrens (1 brother, 1 sister & me) decided to help get Moms hose in better order so she could get around without falling. She was raised during the Depression and won't throw anything away!

I popped in one weekend and Sis said, didn't you sell or give this to Fred? Well, I sure did, he paid me for it. Everyone, including Mom said they didn't want it there, so it's mine once again. Some day I hope to find the box and the other 2 mags in all that clutter.

Back to the P89, it looks better to me now than it did when I sold it. I doubt those 400 rounds were ever run through it either. (hope to find them before a mouse pees on them) They are great guns, and they always work.

Seems I read you can install a P94 trigger in a P89 and get a better trigger pull. I'm going to look into that.
