This was at one of the local toy stores today for $249. I'm not a real fixed sight fan for .357 Mag revolvers unless in pocket guns like the SP101, but how can you resist car gun prices?! It de-gicked nicely, very tight, smooth DA and crisp SA, but did have some evidence of flame cutting in the top strap so probably only around 90% condition. S/N indicates 1987 mfg. It had Hogue finger groove rubber on it but I had a set of Hogue wood that will work for now. I may just put standard K/L factory walnut grips on it. I think it might be fun for trying IDPA revolver.

I know these threads are useless w/o pics, so here's a quick one. I plan to try it out tomorrow, so maybe I can take a better one to post with a range report.

What a deal for $249! Nice looking revolver. Although I prefer the blued version, I couldn't have passed that one up either.

Man that was a good price on a 681. I paid $350.00 for mine and I thought I got a deal.
Good luck with it.

Range Report

I had a chance to try out the 681 with a mix of .357 Magnum handloads at 15yds SA, 25yds mixed DA/SA and 50yds SA. No loads were especially top end, just some 2400 and Blue Dot magnum loads with 140 and 158 Rem JHPs. It did all right. Accuracy was on par with the SP101 until I went to 50 yards and it was about as good there off hand as I can shoot the 3" SP101 from a rest. It is obviously more comfortable to shoot, actually sort of tame.

DA was smooth and predictable, SA nice for a service revolver. It did underscore one thing I don't like about fixed sight revolvers and that is it shoots slightly to the left, just enough to be an irritant. And glare from that SS front sight makes it a little difficult to get good sight alignment for elevation in bright sunlight. But I think it'll do.

Superb revolver at a great price, congrats!

It makes a great IDPA revolver. my favorite L-frame. Enjoy yours. Regards 18DAI.

Another recent acquisition from person involved in poor economy. I see many family treasures becoming available due to need of putting the family first.
