I acquired some .308 tracer ammo..It is loose, but was marked Lake City .308 tracer.

On the end of one bullet it is marked L C 13....Another bullet is marked L C 14..The orange tips on those are smaller that on another one with the orange tip that is marked L C 68.

Am I to ASSUME the one marked with L C 68, having a bit larger/longer orange tip is a somewhat longer burning tracer bullet

The tip color is so they can identify the ammo when it is clipped up in a belt. Typically every 5th round is a tracer with the others being whatever mission specific is needed.

The number after LC is the year of manufacture of the case itself, not necessarily the year the ammo was made ... LC13 was made in 2013, LC14 2014, LC68 1968 and so on.

LC LR represents Lake City Long Range, this was manufactured for long range bolt action rifles.

Those should be fun to fire, although many formal ranges don't allow them.

We knew the tracer rounds as M62 and they had a tracer burn out of about 800 to 900 yards. As noted above, they are generally loaded as every fifth round in belted MG ammo.

As an aside, if the days are hot and dry, leave 'em in the ammo box as they will start a fire ricky tick in dry vegitation. Even when fired into what looks to be a safe impact area, the tracer element will sometimes bounce out and burn for a second or so wherever it lands.

also Red ones

If memory serves, the orange tip was found in A131 belted; there is also a 7.62 red-tipped tracer that was found in A151 belted 7.62, when used for overhead fire. I may have one or two of those around somewhere.

I have 100 in a belt counter sunk no crimp red. What would they be? Any value?
