I Don't Like Plumbing!

Around here plumbers charge about as much as doctors do. The last one we had out charged a ton but did an excellent job. I managed to change a faucet washer once years ago. Every other plumbing job I tried I ended up calling the pro.

I was pretty good as a banker, tradesman, not so much.

Along those lines, but a bit off, I drained and flushed my water heater tank today. This should be done once a year but I've not been good about it. The crud that came out was amazing and I'm sure glad I finally got on the stick and took care of it.

An easy job and cheap vs. replaceing the tank when the bottom rots out!

Don't forget to replace the anode! ;)

That's one of the pluses of being a renter. Last Decmber 24 I found my tub wasn't draining, went to the maintenance office to schedule a repair session, figured I could live without it for a couple of days-they showed up 2 hours later. I was home that day fortunately.
My one plumbing repair, the flush valve on my toilet wasn't shutting off, realized the tab on the end of the float had broken off. The replacement has a brass screw, more durable, finer adjustments. 1 trip to the hardware store-only 1.5 miles for me. 1 hour's work and VOILA !

If you only made one trip to the hardware store you aren't done yet, it was only a temporary repair that will eventually require the other 2 trips to do properly.:D

Just out of high school I worked for a general contractor who did work on HUD houses. I learned quite a bit about plumbing, drywall, painting tricks, roofing and electrical. It has come in handy over the years.

I replaced the tank stopper recently, didn't want my $13.55 water bill to go up. I have a 1/2 gallon milk jug full of water in each of the toilet refill tanks. They flush just as efficiently and save 1/2 gallon of water with each flush. Been doing that for more than 25 years.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Water in my town is expensive, but it does include garbage pick up 2 times a week, yard waste and recycling pick up once a week, and storm water management.

Our garbage, waste, (tree limbs and such) are all picked up at no extra charge. Storm water is a shot in the dark.

Have a blessed day,

I replaced my water heater recently with only two trips. First to Home Depot for the water heater. Second trip to Lowes (it's closer) to get a new 3/4 inch shutoff valve when I discovered the existing one was leaking.

Not too bad overall since I had my very strong 17-year-old son to help with the heavy lifting. Now he knows how to replace a water heater. That should serve him well in the future.
