...... a small incident took place today in my life that REALLY opened my eyes to the wonderful workings of God and human nature. I'm not posting this in order to get a lot of "atta boy" responses - I just believe its a good story to make people feel better about life.

About a year ago, I had to go on disability due to another severe re-injury to my back and six months after that happened, I suffered a heart attack. Needless to say and even though Mrs. Reb continues to work (thankfully), things have been financially difficult for us. Anyway, I was stuck between paydays this week so a buddy of mine graciously GAVE me $50 to help things along until Friday. After I picked that money up, I had no choice but to put some gas in my vehicle just to get back home. On the way home, my "service engine soon" light came on so I stopped to check it out a little and found out it was a little low on motor oil. By the time I got to the grocery store near my home, I was once again counting pennies!

When I got to the checkout register, there was a woman in front of me with a liter of Pepsi which they were selling for 2 / $3.00. She had a shabby coat on and she was holding her pants up by hand which were also pretty dirty looking. To top it all off, she was carrying a urine bag and was obviously using a catheter. She looked at me with a puzzled look on her face and said "Bob?" I told her politely that she was mistaken and she told me she used to work with a guy named Bob in a local hospital and that I looked a lot like him. One thing led to another and I started to remember her as a R.N. that worked in one of the hospitals I worked in (I didn't recognize her right off due to the effects of a failed kidney transplant she recently had). I also told her that the Bob she was referring to just recently passed away at a young age from severe emphysema and previous years in the coal mines.

Anyway, she was trying to use a gift card she had to pay her bill of $1.59 and the register wouldn't take it (probably nothing left on it). This went on for several minutes until I finally told the clerk that I would pay for it for her. The lady refused it at first and then became very appreciative. All it meant to me was really one less pack of cigarettes.

After I left, I sat in my vehicle for a few minutes and thought isn't it wonderful how the Good Lord works?! For a mere $1.59, I felt like a new man and all the "woe is me" feelings were washed completely out of my head. Thank you Dear Lord for a wonderful day and I truly hope and pray that long ago workmate of mine has a wonderful day also :) !!

Edited to add > I came back to this again to add one important thought - This isn't about "ME" and I surely don't want to give that impression to anyone reading it. I know full well that a lot of people help a lot of other people during the course of a day and for that I am truly thankful. This post is all about the power of The Almighty and how in the twitch of a muscle (so to speak) He can alter a person's life!

It's the little things that can brighten a persons day.
I had a buddy once that lived in a small trailer with his dog. He was also on disability for a multitude of physical ailments but since he had just moved, he didn't have enough money left to get something to eat. I went and got him an Italian sub and a six pack of beer. I'm also on disability for a neurological disorder and "pinchin' pennies," but a few bucks out of my leather funds wouldn't hurt.
I gotta admit that his gratitude had me feelin' a bit brighter that day.

'Tis indeed more blessed to give than receive.

I'm not preachin' here, but the Good Book says a lot about giving, and when we do this for "the least of these" among our brethren we do it for Him. Also, whenever we give, we are doing what will indeed come back to us in His kingdom, regardless of how the gift is used by the one who received it.

Thus, the smiles on our faces and in our hearts when we are generous with what we have. :)

Funny how helping somebody in greater (or even less) need makes a person feel like life's worth living.
Some days when I wonder if it's worth chewing through the invisible straps that hold me down in self pity or resentment if I only say I'm willing, an opportunity comes along.
Eleven years ago yesterday I learned that one.
Thanks for reminding me.

Sometimes God is sneaky! There is nothing in the rule book that puts limits on his power or the way in which he uses it. The good thing is God's love is all powerful. Thanks for sharing your story of Him out there working.

Many times when I ask God for direction, I ask him to pickup that 2x4 so I don't miss his message. Sometimes I wander around and just need a little whack to get me back in line.

Good on you for helping out. My wife once was in a drug store and behind an old lady that didn't have the $24.00 for her prescription. My wife being single and little money at the time but with good health insurance to settle her bill pulled out the last of her cash and insisted on paying the bill for the little old lady. She was two weeks away from next payday too.
Lo and behold when my wife was leaving and in the parking lot she found some bills blowing in the breeze and picked them up. It was a twenty and four ones and who would've thought?

I've seen one or two things like that. A rational person with a feel for math knows that it IS evidence that Someone is watching over us.

Our God works in wonderful ways. You spent $1.59 and feel like a millon dollars. Lots cheaper than wonder drugs! Good on you I'm glad you feel better. I'm one of those who gets unhappy during this time of the year. It comes on like clock work. I get irked at the people who pile up the decorations. We buy tons of stuff. But you my good man only spent $1.59 and two people were helped. Sorry for the rant. I'm jus a lil grumpy. But next week my little granddaughters will be here. Good times ahead.

The last time I was on the net--this past Tuesday. I was using wifi at a McDs inside a WM here in town. This guy came in who ive seen and talked with before--is a homeless vet--served in the Marines--came and sat at table next to me waiting for his wife. Ill give a little credit to the staff at that McDs--they gave them free hot coffee and I heard her mention being hungry. I gave themthe 3 packages of Cheese or Peanutbutter crackers I carry with me--as well as a package of chocoleate cookies--that I always carry--to give out to kids. Well, seeing the looks on their faces--and the thanks--I also bought them a burger each--which was all I had on me--so couldnt domuch. Well,we sat there for about 2 hours talking and such--but I had to leave. WishI had more to give? but didnt have it on me asI already spent what I had.

Anyway, it does feelgood to do something for others when i can. Sometimes it seemslike its a test--but I dont look at it like that.
