Been gone for a bit, since I sold off my 59 and 669s, when I got bit by the .380 bug (I'm old, and very old school). I have my Glock 19 that I have carried for over 23 years since my days as a LEO that I use for serious carry (in metro areas - I live in a rural area).

The 669 was no better than the Glock as a EDC piece, and I wanted something smaller for rural EDC. I went with a CZ83 .380 13+1 loaded with Buffalo Bore +Ps. Nice, but heavy because of the steel frame and big grip.

Well today I was in the local Gun Shop. It so happens my friend who owns the shop just put out some new Shields: 9mm and .40 cal. I started playing with them, as I had never felt the need before to check them out. I like .40s, but already have thousands of round of 9mm, including 9BPLE 115 grain +P+ "Illinois State Police" loads, so I grabbed a 9mm. It is about 12 ounces less loaded than the CZ83.

I was really smitten with the little gun! Light and handy and points well for me.I am an S&W fan, as those were my carry guns in the pre-Glock days of my career. It was love, and at $425 NIB with two mags, I could not say no. It is in 10 day jail now with my name on it..

With the 8 round mag an one up the spout, that is 9 rounds total. As I am long retired from being an LEO, I don't plan on breaking up armed robberies... Just personal defense, so nine of the +P+s pills should be enough!

I was amazed that I could not find any negative information on it on the web. everyone touts it as 100% reliable, which is what you need in an EDC self defense weapon. I had a Kahr CW45 that I liked, but it was the most unreliable pistol I ever owned!

With that said, anybody got any tips for me on pet loads, holsters, cleaning, etc?

Yep, I did. With all out screwy laws they are passing, I decided to get a few firearms before it gets too weird. I just picked up a pristine Ruger MK II 22LR pistol, also.

I like this little guy so much,I suspect my CZ 380 with join the BERSA FireStorm .380 in the safe.

No sh*t! Being retired LEO, I am exempt from the mag ban, but it is really stupid to limit people, especially those who have legally owned them for years! An background checks on ammo sales, and no internet ammo sales? What a load of cr@pola!

Here is the REALLY scary part.....

Upon conviction for a prohibiting offense, but before sentencing, the judge will direct you to dispose of your firearms and report to the probation department with proof.

The probation department will prepare a report for the court detailing how many guns the defendant owns and the disposition of those guns. if DOJ records say you own 12 rifles and 6 handguns, but you only give the probation officer proof you sold 11 rifles and 6 handguns, the probation officer reports that to the court. The court SHALL then do the following;

1. remand you into custody, pre sentencing.
2. Issue search warrants for your homes, cars, storage lockers, hunting cabin, ect.
3. serve those search warrants.
4. file the results with the court.

Congratulations on your new purchase. The more I shoot my Shield the more I like it. It's awesome!

Congratulations on your new Shield 9. I've owned one for several months and am impressed with it. I did install Talon grips which made it easier for me to grip.

After doing a little digging, I found the 9BPLE 115 +P+ ammo that performs so well in my Glock 19, is outperformed in the Shield by my Speer Gold Dot 124 grn Gold Dot +P, giving about 1150 fps/345 ft lbs, as opposed to the 1115 fps/325ft lbs from the 9BPLE.

I have about 400 hundred rounds of the +P Gold Dot also, so I will probably use that in the Shield and the 9BPLE in the Glock.

I got a Shield a couple years ago, and didn't like it at all. I think it must have been me, not the gun! I was excited to try it, but I got stovepipes, FTFs, etc, so my first impression wasn't good. I also couldn't even get the slide to lock back for cleaning because the spring was so stiff.
Sold it.
Should I try it again?

I would. Go to a range that rents guns, and try a 9mm. I have heard that while current 9mm Shields are 100% reliable, early ones, especially 40s, had some issues. I heard the beefed up the slide rails and changed some angles from the first ones.

Can't hurt to rent one and try again. I have not had a sing issue with either my Shield or my 9C. As much as I like my 9C I am favoring my Shield more and more.

Magguts +2?

Anyone use the Magguts +2 set up on the 9mm Shield? I ordered one. It makes the 7 round magazine a 9 rounder, and is still slightly shorter than the factory 8 rounder. It also makes the 8 rounder into a 10 rounder, and is less than 1/4" longer than the factory 8. It uses a flat leaf spring like MP38/40 magazines did.

When I get it, I put 50 rounds through it to ensure reliability.
