I finally got a 1911!!

just for your cleaning chores made easy, procure a GI guide rod (shorter)and solid end cap. the full length guide rod is an un-necessary hoo ha. original 1911's never had a need for the full length and still don't.

That is a beauty. I plan on adding one just like it or the railed version very soon. Everyone here is correct. We all started out with just one 1911. I guess now is the one to admit to my 1911 addiction......give it a few months and you will be just like me.

Where would you find these parts?

Ah. The great full length vs GI length guide rod debate. Only to be rivaled by the internal vs external extractor debate. :)

I do not find full length to be that much of a PITA so I have never swapped mine out. It is a matter of personal preference.

I also fail to see the scorn over the full-length rod. Since most high-end 1911s have them, it can't be a detractor or lesser quality part. I have three S&W 1911s including two PC guns and all three have the full-length rod. The two Kimbers I used to own had them and usually, when a gun is built with one, the manufacturer mentions that feature in the gun's description, something they wouldn't do if the part was inferior to another design.

"Grats.

I have three, Colt Mark IV Officers Model caliber 45, Colt 1991 A1 caliber 45, which my wife gave me for Christmas many years ago, and a Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec Parkerized Model caliber 45. It isn't a caliber 45, but it's a Rock Island Armory M1911-A1-FS Super 38 caliber Model. Love em all. They're not S&Ws, however I may not be done yet. Who knows?
