I got off work at 4:45 this morning and eagerly awaited the sherriffs dept opening time and FLEW all the way up to the road they are on and my hands were shaking as I filled out the application, here it is only a 3-5 day wait and bingo you have your permit after forking over your 15 bucks, and my brother in law decided that since all I have been talking about is 'that damn permit' he would cover the cost for my birthday, my favorite present yet (don't tell my wife!). but am I the only one that has that dreadful feeling of 'what if I get denied?' because I hate is almost as long as I am going to hate the eternal 3-5 days! anyway I am rambling on but my wife is sleeping and I figured you guys would appreciate this experience more!:D

-- ok well it is officially my 21st birthday and I went to the SO and got my permit had my first outing and I fell so much more at ease now, not so vulnerable and I couldnt be any more ecstatic!

Holy cow, you don't even need a cup of coffee! :D

Congrats on getting the application in and we will try to keep you distracted for the next 3 to 5 days. You've got a holster, right? Just checking...

Happy b-day, too.

Chris

Congrats and happy birthday.
Don't keep the ccw info from your wife. Keep her on board.
Perhaps she'll get one too.

oh believe me she knows and has known for months, and I agree keeping info from wives is like carrying with no holster bad for your man berries!

three to five days for a permit. You don't know how good you got it. On this side of the lead curtain it takes 3-5 months just to get a permit to buy a gun. No way will any normal person out here have a carry permit. Cops, judges and congress - till they get busted and become felons anyway.
Happy Birthday.
Just had my own a couple of days ago.

Congrats!

3 to 5 day wait? UGH!

I didn't even have to wait five minutes for mine! :)

I walked in the courthouse, filled out the form, within 15 minutes I was walking out with my permit :D

3-5 days is nothing! Here in MI we have to take an 8 hour class that runs around $150, then go to the county clerks office and fill out a form and pay $105, then go wait an hour or so to get fingerprinted and pay $15. THEN in a month or two you might get your permit...

What a great birthday gift, your bro-in-law is alright.

I thought we had it easy in my neck of the woods, but here the cost is $50 cash for the county Sheriff and a $15 check to the State of Oregon (although getting that part right is the hardest part of obtaining a permit).

When I applied, the Sheriff told me it would take 2-3 weeks to receive the permit by mail. It showed up in the mailbox 4 days later. :D

Yikes K/K!
The last time I was that excited was the first time a round didn't clear a Thumper? But then there was that hemi Plymouth Belvedere. And the second honeymoon? The 96" XLCH...
And the.......
My advice? No Skittles and Jolt cola till the paper hits your door.

(EDIT)
CONGRATULATIONS!

Here in Guilford County, NC, we take an 8 hour course, must pass a shooting test and wait from 30 to 60 days for an appointment to fill out the application and pay the $90 fee. The background and medical records search take 90 days. We must pay the Doctors for our records to be copied so the county can have a permanent file. Finally, you are called to come get your permit. I fully understand the apprehension about passing or not. In fairness to the Sherrif's Department, they did not have enough staff to handle the rush of applicants just before and since the election.

You almost would have done better with an out of state UT. $80 classroom. $65 permit fee. No shooting required. Good for 5 years then $10 to renew for another 5 years. Good in 30 states if you're a UT resident, but you lose 2 states if you're out of state. NC has reciprocal agreement with UT.
Took about a month and 1/2 and they are a shall issue state.

They said they just ran out of ink for the printer and that you would have to wait until after the new year.:D Happy Birthday! I remember when I first started carrying how paranoid I was thinking people could tell I was carrying. These days I don't even care. I wear sweat pants with my .45 IWB with my t-shirt hanging out over my weapon. You can tell I have something but people who don't carry don't have a clue. I really don't care if they know or not because I know that I'm legal.:p
