Going through a holster/grip plastic bin I have. I found these grips Possibly off a 586 I sold but am not sure. Is there a way to tell from the stamps on the back side. Thanks Ted

Those are for an N frame and made of Goncalo. No diamond around the screw but with black stock circle inserts so around 68-71.

I disagree. I think those are for a K/L-frame square butt. The indicator is the amount of wood at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions around the washer. N-frame it is equal side-to-side. K/L-frame one side is wider - like these.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

NT-430 indicates N-frame. The stocks are made of Goncalo alves and date from 1969-1974. 5912/5913 are part numbers for the right and left stock of a Model 29 or Model 57.

This only works for Magna stocks, not targets. On N Magnas the two ledges are the same width. On K Magnas the rear ledge is about 1/2 as wide as the front one.

If you look closely they are stamped NT430. That is the factory designation of the N-Target frame used for various magnums. They could have come from OP's Model 27 or variations of the Models 29 and 57 as Doc44 said just above. While they are S&W factory stocks they probably had been purchased as after-market replacements. Factory installed target stocks usually do not have the NT430 or part numbers stamped on them, although they might.

NT430 leaves No question that this is an N frame Target grip, besides the football cut out pre-dates the introduction of the 586/686 series of L frame guns. The early L framed guns came with the speedloader cut in the Left grip.

If the outward ledge looks bigger than the pounded down post of the medallion (rivot), it likely is an N.
