Does anyone carry an I frame for self defense?

If so is it your primary or backup gun? And if so what caliber?

I have revolvers from J frame through to N and considered them all as carryable. The I frame is more of a curiosity right now but why not SD?

In recent months I have gone for the New York reload as I notice crime increasing. Maybe an I frame might fit the bill if .38special.

(I am considering an EDC knife. But that is for another thread.)

Looking forward to your responses.

I-Frames were manufactured in 3 calibers only:

.22 Long Rifle

.32 S&W Long

.38 S&W

The J-Frame was created for the simple reason that S&W wanted a .38 Special revolver on this, I, frame, but the frame window was not long enough! As a matter of fact the I-Frame was no longer in production at this time having been replaced by the "Improved I-Frame". The improvement was replacing the flat mainspring with a coil mainspring. The Improved I-Frame was lengthened to accommodate the .38 Special and the J-Frame was born.

You can have all the J-Frame .38 Special revolvers you want, they are called the "Chief's Special" or Model 36, 37, 60 etc.

I got my Mom's J frame, my younger sister got my Dad's I Frame.
She doesn't carry it but keeps it loaded in her night stand drawer.
We both load the Buffalo Bore version of The Colt New Police for
38 S&W. It's expensive but a decent self defence cartridge. It
is more powerful than a 380 and close to the non Power+ 38 special.
I believe a good shot to the vital area of a chest will get the job
done. I don't see why you couldn't carry it. The only problem might
be if you need work done on it parts may have to be made and that
could be expensive.

I would go for the 38S&W. I doubt it would ever get more than two boxes through it.

So I should be looking for an I frame Terrier in 38 S&W.

I was hoping for more replies from people who actually carry an I frame for SD.

Perhaps I should have posted this in the 1896-1960 Forum? The Concealed Carry & Self Defense category just isn't getting to the right people.
