Several weeks ago there was a thread about early target grips, Doc44 was kind enough to post a picture of some lovely early smooth factory target grips with some unique features. Here is my attempt at replicating the nice lines of those grips. The wood I choose was Gaboon Ebony since it has that nice classic look. Maybe someone can find and post a picture from the original thread.

Not me, I wouldn't be speedloading (read racing) on as fine a gun as those eligant grips would be going on anyway. Obviously there is no speedloader cutout on those grips shown in the picture. They didn't have speedloaders back when this style was in fashion, which he is trying to replicate.

Dick, I understand the collector, safe queen hoarder and BBQ chef mentality. Oops, leave out the collector, they only want original grips. But as a shooter I still appreciate beauty, as long as it's functional first.

Those are stunning! I love ebony, but it's not an easy wood to work.

Great job!

When I go to the range I have plenty of time, thus there is no need for a speedloader. Plus speedloaders have to be loaded and it take me longer to load a speedloader than loading the cylinder 2 rounds at a time from an open box. I guess the other thing is I really don't have too many speedloaders which means I would have to load them at the range. I can always but a football cutout in these but once its there I can't put the wood back

John,
When we gonna see some Python stocks (in the other forum)?

Classic ... elegant ... timeless ... its hard to find the correct word to describe those beautiful grips. You did a superb job.

Ahh, It looks like the wood needs to come a little further down the trigger guard, I will make a correction for the next set.
