I got a dumb question

Hey guys,

I picked up a Shield Plus carry comp at few weeks ago. I love the gun so far, but when I went to mount an optic on it, it wouldn't sit flush on the slide. Long story short, I am going to be sending the gun back to smith to(hopefully) have them recut the optic cut to make it right. My dumb question is: how do I ship a firearm back to Smith? I've never had to send a serialized part of any kind, let alone an entire gun. Aside from getting the RMA from Smith, anything else I need to know?

I had to send one back to them for warranty work. They'll tell you what to do when you call

Same issue… I ended up sanding the front of the dot and reaming the front mounting posts a little bit to make the dot fit. I didn’t feel like going through the warranty for it. I also was at my LGS a month ago, they took a brand new Holosun EPS carry out, took the plate off the Shield plus comp, and there was that gap.

On my Shield Plus, I’m closing in on 1000 rounds. With the filing on the sight a lug/post holes and proper length screws and loctite, zero issues.
I know exactly what you mean, I just modified a bit and it’s been trouble free. The Veridian I got for it via their rebate, same thing. It lasted about 100 to 200 rounds…I took it off (I like red better).
It also had that slight gap. Hard to see in the pic, but if you were to hold it up and shine a light through the other side, it’s there.

Smith will tell you exactly what to do. I know Springfield has you package it and send it via fed ex to them. Not sure how Smith handles the whole pistol back for warranty work.

Thank you guys. I will call them on Monday and get everything sorted. Enjoy your weekend guys.

dajogejr: if the warranty team doesn't get my slide to a point where it is satisfactory, then sanding/filing will be the next move. Funny you mention the eps carry, because that is what i attempted to mount to it, and when that didn't work, I tried an osight with the same issue. Hopefully the warranty guys get it handled, but it's nice to have a backup plan.

FWIU, some of the new Shield Plus with the Holosun K cut still have a negative forward slope to the cut.

My Shield Plus with the RMSc cut had it going on to the point where I couldn't zero a Holosun EPS Carry. I ended up sending my slide to Nameless Armament to have the cut modified to Holosun K and leveled.

I was worried about that as well Beju, but I **think** the shield plus carry comp may not suffer from that incorrect angle? Again, think.

Once I sanded on my Cylee a bit, it snaps on nicely….I believe mine is the “K” cut, it’s front lugs only, the RMSc is 4 lugs if I’m not mistaken.

The Veridian did fit better than the Holosun or the Cylee on mine originally..but some sanding on the front and “hogging” out the boss holes, it’s snug and zero issues.

4 posts is indeed the RMSc cut.

FWIW, there can still be tolerance stacking between gun makers/slide millers and optics manufacturers.

I was hoping that the switch to the K cut would be the end of canted optics cuts, but it's still happening.
