Pretty new to me, my 4 inch S&W 617 developed a problem that I just can't fix. I've only fired about 500 rounds out of this gun. I take care of it, cleaning it after every range session. Everything is nice and tight.

The problem is that the cylinder will not close some times. If it does close the action will lock up and won't advance or fire. Barrel/Cylinder gap looks fine, ejector rod is tight all I can think of now is that the crane may be bent and I don't have the tools to fix that so off it goes back to the factory.

I called Smith today and they sent me a shipping label for FedEx. Customer service warned me that it might take a few weeks and they would be closed for a week for Christmas.

I thought about giving it to a local gunsmith but why spend the money when it's got a lifetime warranty and the company has always been good to me when I need service.

I even like the fact that FedEx came to my home to pick it up. Lets see how long it takes and how well it's fixed. I'm betting that it will come back better than new.

Probably a good call for turnaround time. I talked to Nelson around Thanksgiving and he was 40+ days out. The mother ship may actually be faster.

Maybe a broken firing pin spring? With the recessed chambers of a 22 it can be hard to see. The firing pin may not retract, thus protruding enough to cause difficulty opening or closing the cylinder, or blocking cylinder rotation.

That was one of the first things I checked. I've had a broken firing pin before.
