I'm a big fan of revolvers in auto loader calibers. I have tried unsuccessfully to find a S&W 646 for over three years even though I don't like the idea of a titanium cylinder or needing moon clips.

I read about Charter Arms having a lightweight .40 revolver that did not require moon clips. I didn't have much interest in any Charter Arms product because I had one of their .22 Pathfinder back in the 70s and it was one of the worst guns that I ever owned.

I found one of the .40 caliber Charter Arms Pit Bull revolvers at a local gun show and was impressed with the spring retained method of holding the .40 rimless rounds in the cylinder, light weight of the stainless/aluminum frame, and lifetime guarantee.

I figured that I would give Charter Arms another chance since S&W wasn't interested in bringing back a .40 revolver and I could pay for the Charter Arms .40 with my Social Security check.

After shooting more than 300 rounds through the .40 Pit Bull, I am impressed with the zero problems encountered, decent trigger and good accuracy. If you are recoil sensitive, this is not your best choice in a lightweight gun.

I've heard nothing but bad things about charter arms but then again the Internet is the Internet! I was waiting for the .45 acp version I didn't know SW made one till I googled it haha so I bought two .45 acp revolvers; good luck with that revolver can you make a vid of loading and shooting?

I got the Charter .40 also. Previously I had the original Charter Arms Undercover circa 1965, and it still is a winner. Best sights on a snubby and deadly accurate. The 40 is also an excellent handgun-but as mentioned above it will get your attention, particularly if you shoot 180 gr slugs out of it. The grips are very well designed for this though, and If you prefer a wheelgun (or simply can't afford a bottom feeder) this one shoud do well for HD/SD, in .40 S&W.
BTW: For fast reloading get a Colt Officers model magazine and just thumb the new rounds into the chambers, loads very quickly.

I am have been thinking about one of these as a CC gun, since I'd like to consolidate around the 40sw cartridge were possible. Is the frame small enough to fill that role?

ps. Charter has been completely revamped and relocated a couple of times since the 70s, so there quality back then should not be a major determining factor. The lack of permanence also has me discrediting any "lifetime" coverage they offer.

I have a .44 Special Pug and I have had no problems with it. You will know that you shot it.
