I guess I'm a sucker.

Guy with a dog was panhandling for his dog at the local market. I went in & bought him a bag of about as good a food as you're going to find in a supermarket.

He was either legit or a great actor. The way he acted when I gave him the food, I believed him.

From my avatar, you'd think I was the biggest cynic around, I'm not, in fact i usually fall for anyones' story; case in point, after I left Law Enforcement, I had a Job that required a lot of travel, and on this. particular occasion I was traveling with another salesman. We checked in to the motel for the night, and on the way to park our cars we ran across an older gentleman getting out of a pickup with several other guys sitting in the back and standing around the truck, it struck me that they looked like a work crew. He then said that he was from the same county in Georgia that I was, that they were on a job nearby and the company couldn't pay them their final wages and that they were stuck, and asked if I could help them out, to get back home.
Said they only needed $25.00 for gas, of course I immediately pulled out my wallet, but all I has was twenties, and gave him one and asked my friend if he had a five , and he said he didn't, whereupon the old man said " Diss'el help and we sho does appreciate it" and went back to his truck
A few weeks later my friend happened to check into the same motel again, and the first phone call he made was to me to report that those same guys were still in the motel parking lot, still broke down and still needed some money to get back home
I've given money to people begging in front of a liquor store!
My latest was best though; we have a gentleman in our town who is severely handicapped, I just happened to be in a store one day while he was there, and after he left, I asked the owner if he would see that he got a donation if I gave one, he was happy to do it, and mentioned that he helped him out from time to time, so I started giving him a small monthly donation, and left it with the store owner to give it to him, this went on for a while, and I had some illness or minor surgery, that made me late in getting his donation to him-------so, I was sitting home one night and the phone rang---it was the fellow I had been helping out, calling and dunning me because his payment was late that month!! I have no idea of how he got my name and phone number, since the store owner doesn't know my name and I have an unlisted phone number.
But, I keep delivering each month----maybe I'm dumb for doing so----
but, I do believe that sometimes an angel is sent to test you.

I'll help people out but if I got a call at home like that one the guy would have been done. Seriously DONE.

I keep spare change in the ashtray in my truck -- I am pretty cynical of the panhandlers, but every now and then something (someone) tells me to help a certain one of them out and I give them the contents (sometimes a double handful, but I don't ever know the exact amount)

I think we are to help out the needy (for I have been abundantly blessed), but I do ask God for discernment

but, once given I do not think on it again, I have done my part...

People can and do survive on dog food, it is not bad when you have nothing else. You very could have been feeding both of them.

You did well!
