Got my daughter and "our" new M&P 22 out to the range today. This is her first time shooting a pistol, so I didn't have great expectations. Once out there, she did pretty much everything just the way we worked on it at home, as far as manipulating safety, dropping mags, inserting new ones, and such. After she started shooting though, that gun became "hers". I had been looking forward to shooting it myself, but watching her was just as much fun. I actually did get to shoot a bit too, 56 rounds from my Shield before the weather shut us down. My Shield was flawless as usual, and all in all I was pleased with the 22's performance. Out of about a 100 rounds of assorted ammo, the only 3 failures were from Winchester 333 bulk, all in one mag. Here's a couple of pics of her first ever pistol shoot. The target is her first three mags at 7 yards. I thought she did pretty well. It was a great day.

Good work...I always enjoyed giving my guns away then I could go out a get another one or two:)

Always good to see the next generation taking up the shooting sports. Looks like she did really well on the target, too! Be proud, Dad!

nice shooting...how old is she? has she shot much rifle before? did she shoot the shield at all?

She's 12. Just started shooting my Ruger 10/22 a few months ago when she joined 4-H, wish I had started her sooner. Not yet on the Shield. The reason I got the M&P 22 is because she wanted to shoot it, and figured that small 40 would be a little tough and should start her out a little milder. With as much fun as she had with it yesterday, that poor Ruger may have cob webs next time it gets out.

Nicely done! Nothing better than a .22 to start with.

Don't worry about the 10/22. Things go in cycles. Once she's shot the pistol for a while, she'll want to reach out a little further and the rifle is the right tool for that.

Whatever you do, don't introduce her to shooting clays with shotguns. You'll be broke in short order.;)

it's a good time to start...my 12 yr enjoys shooting my 15-22. i had her in the local issac waltons club on their competition team. she loved shooting, but did not want to compete. she has shot my sigma 40, the 40c, and the shield 9. i gave her single shot, lever action ithaca that was my dad's as a birthday gift last summer.

Glad you had a great day, That is how I lost my 22A and my 22 revolver to my daughter. Brings a smile to your face doesn't it.

Excuse the three post on the same subject. I am new on this forum and I screwed up.
