so first off..... i work at walmart and i was prepping the sporting goods area for our yearly inventory so i had the ammo keys on me incase a customer needed ammo.... well this guy came in and bought every box of 7.62x39mm tulammo we had... 22 20 round boxes.... so i said... you must have an AK or SKS dont ya? he's like " howd ya guess?" in a joking tone.... so we start talking about guns and stuff and everything is going good... untill i tell him im a proud owner of an AR15...... all of a sudden this guy gets a look on his face like i just slapped him in the face with a big smelly fish and starts talkin to me about how the AK system is soooooo much better than the AR system... and i start telling him that ive never shot an ak but am a big fan of anything that goes bang but this guy keeps yakking on about the supposed superiority of the AK...so im trying as hard as i can to stay neutral on the issue since i have no comparison points seeing as ive only ever shot my AR(and ill defend it to the hilt) but this guy would not budge and i feel as though im stuck in a one sided ford vs chevy vs dodge style discussion.... never did i say my AR is better than his AK but he wouldnt back down.... very iritating

i respect passionate people... i really do.... but people who dont have an open mind to both sides of the discussion just come off as kind of ignorant to me.. i dont know... just felt the need to vent about a situation that made me chuckle after it was all said and done...

PunisherBane...Let me introduce you to a term that I apply regularly to people like that "GUN SNOBS" and I really dislike them! I think the biggest reason I dislike them so much is you cannot have a rational conversation with them!! :D

i used to think that only terrorist in movies carried AK47's..... he proved it today.... he terrorized my good mood that i was in lol........... n in seriousness... i respect the ak47 very much... very durable and user friendly gun from what i hear..... just not my cup of tea

Comparing an AK to an AR is like comparing a 4x4 farm truck to a hi-end sports car.
One is dead reliable, looks like it dukes it out with a dozer and asks for little in the way of TLC.
The other demands constant attention, gets envious looks from others, is very high speed and low drag. But needs TLC.
AK and AR, there's a place for both. And just so we're clear I like em both. Dale

Why you stood there and talked with him after it became obvious is beyond me.....turn around and walk away. It is a proven method that has worked for me over the decades. ;)

You have every right to be wrong!!!;) Unfortunately this guy either didn't think you did, or he was a Viet Nam Veteran, or possibly a vet of some other wonderful deal we were thrown into. Seriously, I find I have to watch it with guys I am talking to when the ubiquitous, mostly direct gas impingement under bulleted low bid politically expedient thing is being discussed. Often, I am concerned for the safety of the user, as there are a bunch of names on that black wall in D.C. because of it. Then I realize that I am seeing the gun in its ultimate role-in a deadly force situation-which is not what many who own these guns are looking at. They are just looking to have some fun; and that's just going to be OK, whether I think so or not. I would suggest that you look at those AR's that use the gas cylinder operating system-and something beside a 5.56 might be a good consideration as well. I often repeat the phrase, "I'm glad you have found something that you like" as many times as needed to blow hards that need everyone to agree with them, because they don't have the strength of their own convictions.

I'll take my AR-15 A2 over an AK any day of the week and twice
on sundays. Reliable yes for the AK. The russians made it to be able
to run in mud, snow, rain. Not to be an accurate weapon.
I have found as long as you keep an AR-15 "reasonably" clean, as most
will do, it is also just as reliable and much more accurate than the
AK platform. You might have pointed this idiot to the section of the
store where they have the peel and stick letters so he could get a
large "L" to paste to his forehead.

like i said.... im a big fan of anything that goes bang... whether its muzzle loader or semi auto, american or russian, hunting or military.. and trust me... i tried to walk away a few times and get back to work.. but this guy wasnt going to be happy until he found some way to convert me... one of his points that got a chuckle out of me though was "its so easy to use that a child could use it" to which i promptly reply... "yeaaaa sierra leone kinda proved that" that got me an interesting look :D

oh well... interesting convos at wally world that i thought id share... ill stay with my M&P15OR... i likes it a lot...if an ak came along at a good price... id look into it... but so would any other firearm... thinking about making a sniper on a budget lately... thinking like a savage axis or remington 770.. something low cost to start with and building off of that

Something to think about, around where I live quite a few people use their AR-15's to see just how accurate they can shoot and how fast and stay accurate, and most of them are at the 100-300 yard lines.

The ones with the SKS's however stay at the 25-75 yard line and mostly spray and pray and talk about how cheap their ammo is compared to the AR's.

Just a observation I have made.

Seen that myself! It's possible to get an AK hitting out to 200, but it takes work and practice.
Secondly if you use quality ammo in an AK (think the commercial hunting stuff or if you can find it LAPUA) you'd be amazed how good that rattle trap AK can shoot! Dale

Somewhere out on an AK board, there's a thread...

"I was at the local Wal-Mart today. I bought up every box of AK Ammo they had. While there, I chatted up the clerk. He told me he had a lousy AR pea-shooter. I told him about how good the AK is. I think I got us a convert today. I told him how it's so easy to use even a kid could use it, and he agreed."

LOL.

It's human nature to want others to agree with our choices. I've had a few interesting times at a gun store / counter / ammo counter where I'm standing mute while someone keeps on proselytizing their faith in one thing or another.

At least you got the general AR v.s. AK sermon. Wait until you get the blue on blue hate from fellow AR owners for owning one rollmark over another.

Each has their place and application, I have a SKS, an AR and an AK, to say that one is any more accurate than the others with iron sights I can't really say that but I will say that I have only had the AR for a few weeks. My SKS and AK are what they are, man size target at 300 meter accurate. I will also say that I can consistently hit a large gong at 500 meters with the AK about 7-8 out of 10 rds. Unfortunately you got caught up in the moment and couldn't easily get out of it and still provide good customer service, trust me I know how it is. Don't worry about the ***.

If cheap quality ammo was as plentiful as over opinionated people I would have cases stored away. Sometimes the AK vs AR debates are like talking about politics or religion no one ever wins. You did the right thing especially being at work. Just let people like that rant, because they need to hear themselves talk and justify why they decided to own an AK. Both platforms are good and have their applications in the combat rifle world.

If I ran into you at my local WallyWorld, you would have to listen to me rant about why you can't carry the same ammo as the one 12 mi up the road?

hell if i know.... i do know that the dept manager of our sporting goods isnt allowed to order ammo, home office orders all of it for us... the dept manager at my store said that she can order all she wants but home office will deny the order and send us ammo based on sales and a retarded system called Perpetual Inventory... i know this because i bug her all the time to try to get the remington brand of .223's in because all we get it tulammo .223 and i dont shoot that if i dont have to
