I have a 15-22 can it take a 223 upper?

Not a dumb question but the answer is no. The 15-22 is wider and the pins will not line up. the 15-22 is definitely a purpose built, complete rifle. Looks, acts and functions like an AR and accepts most accessories but the upper and lower are not interchangeable.

thank you BillyJack, I have yet to see a 15-22 but I live in the middle of nowhere and the edge of the earth is just west of me but I can see it LOL

If the edge of the earth is just west of you that would mean you live in Nevada or Arizona. I live here in CA and I find myself praying for the big one that might give you some really nice beach front property!

Nope I am sorry western Ks.but I look to the west and I can see the edge of the earth, and when I look I am seeing miles and miles and miles...but I think your right Arizona and Nevada will have some great beach front property!!! :D it just looks like we can see it from here!!

The mag well on my lower 15-22 was too small to accept the 223 mag oh well.In talks to pick up a lower then the other bits needed.

Thanks for the responces

A 15/22 isn't even close to mil-spec. The the reason why smith built them the way they did. They didnt want to cut their own legs out from under themselves.

The 15-22 may not be able to interchange uppers/lowers with a 223, but it is a d#@n fine rifle in its own right. Works almost identically and is very inexpensive to shoot.

Wait, you really don't have a 15-22? I thought you did all this time. I don't know what gave me that impression.

Dik, nope and honestly have never seen one other than to read about them. I am a big fan of Marlin 22's with the microgroove barrel. I have a model 60 that I bought in 81 and a 795 that I bought last year. The 795 is a fine shooting gun, once I polished the feed ramp and put a Boyd Stock on it. It even shoots the Champion/Hunter Specialties 25rnd mags very reliably

:D

Plus I only have about $225 in it!!

Beauty of a gun you've got there. My late best friend had one of the same 795's with the Boyd stock. He refinished it in blue though. Just sanded it all down and added blue food dye to his varnish or whatever it was and it was BRIGHT blue. His favorite rimfire. I never fired it though,
