And not too long from now, maybe a few months at most, you'll shrug and think to yourself, BFD. That is, if you even remember the incident. The more times this happens, the better you are able to handle your temper. It works like that. Age and experience are your friend. Trials and tribulations make most of us better people.

What is it about cars and getting into a rage? When I was about the OP's age, every time I drove I would get angry at the car in front of me. They were either driving too slow or too fast or because they were in front of me. If I had to change lanes, I always had to first pass the car in the next lane that was slightly ahead. It was really stressful. I had to physically unclench my stomach muscles.

Then I started thinking, 'Why is it so important that I risk myself and everyone around me?" It's not the driving that's important but arriving at the destination safely. Driving is just a means of getting there. Everyone else on the road also have errands and once in awhile they make mistakes but they also want to arrive safely. My whole attitude about driving changed.

Now, I only get angry at red lights.

I lived in NJ for 28 years of my life, things like this happened every day

I've probably forgotten more road rage incidents than most people have been involved in

But seriously, don't let people suck you in. Unless someone was so hostile they were a threat and I felt I had to defend myself, I wouldn't have reacted to it. If someone is crazy and stupid enough to go off on someone they don't know for little or no reason, they are crazy and stupid enough to be dangerous.

I have had similar things happen once or twice since I started to carry. I always just smile and nod while holding 18 rounds of 9mm along the side of my leg. People are stupid. You dont know who or what is in that car.

Great call on how you handled it.

Two weeks I witnessed a 20-something year-old in a Jeep absolutely harass/bully a middle-aged woman in an older Honda Accord by flashing her gang-signals, driving into her lane, stopping suddenly in front of her, "birding" her -- I mean just stupid behavior -- she was petrified and simply kept her eyes straight ahead and drove slowly on a main city road in Lafayette -- I just happened to see this, watched this unfold over a few minutes, got the license plate of the Jeep, called it in to the local police, then followed him at a distance -- he got pulled over 1/2 mile later, I stopped and gave my info/facts to the officer -- who wrote him for reckless operation (kid had the sideways cap thing going on) and tried to get belligerent with me when I stopped to talk to the officer -- city prosecutor (who I know) called me and told me they are considering terrorizing charges against the jerk driver. Always be aware that your fellow motorists may well see that you are driving sensibly and being victimized by some moron and they will report same, and your version of events will be corroborated, plus you will be on the moral high ground by reacting in a measured, stable manner. Good on you also for remembering your obligations to your wife and kids to act responsibly -- if you pass this way, beer and dinner is on me.
