i have a hypothetical situation.

In the song (which will now be playing over and over in your head) it says "The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle........".
The dictionary defines "Desert" as "Wild and uninhabited (a desert island). "
By the way, Mary Ann was WAY better looking than Ginger. (Not that I noticed, mind you).:D

I'd do the .357 route. Plenty of ammo from jhp's to ball to snakeshot (I hate snakes) to whatever else is available.

But I'd prefer the cartridge to fire a super-compressed, fully-equipped, 38' yacht with instruments, crew, food, and a wet-bar.

All I'd want is a deck of cards. I'd deal a hand of solitaire, and before long someone would come along and tell me to play the red queen on the black king.

Then I'd just leave with them.

But I'll take a Model 17 just to play along. :D

I used to have this old close friend that was in world war two. He was about the best BSer I ever met. He told me this long involved story about the army leaveing him on a island alone to observe and report. Seems they moved on and forgot about him and he could no longer reach them on the radio. Their was huge flocks of pelicans or sea gulls there. Frank roped a bunch, tied them all together somehow and had them fly him over to a distant habitated island!
He would give you about a half hour of belivable details to get you sucked in, and then hit you with that or similar at the end on his storys!

I wouldn't need a gun...maybe cable tv.

No polar bears so this won't be a bear thread

A mod 17 would be good to shoot down bananas and coconuts with minimal damage.

But if someone shows up, I will be happy with a 4" K-frame.

Not a Model 15, but a Model 67, for it is stainless steel, and yes, it is .38 special. I would have a mix of the ol' standby, Winchester 130gr. FMJFP, some LSWCHP (non+p), and a bunch of Georgia Arms plated semiwadcutters in 158gr, in case there are pigs.

I met this old-timer once, and he told me a long involved story about getting treed by two bears. He really had me- up to the point where one of the bears left, and came back with a beaver.

Mod 16 32 H&R. Just because it's different, cheaper to shoot reloads than a 22lr, easy to carry rounds, and can load to the power of a +P 38 special.

I would want a stainless, K-Frame, 8 shot, 22 Mag with a 6" adjustable sight barrel and removable shoulder stock. My second choice would be the same thing in a 7 shot 32 WCF.

If I'm going to pretend I might as well pretend for what I'd really want.

I would be happy with my standard Field carry S&W a 4" 44 Mag.
Currently, I mostly carry a 629Mountain Gun.

I carry a lot of ammo, including a bunch of CCI shotshells.

My "non field" carry gun is a 1911 in 45 ACP. I always carry a bunch of CCI shotshells for it as well. They work just as good as the 44 shotshells.

If I was "cought out" with IT, I could "make do"

I, and the Wife, have shot a BUNCH of small game with CCI shot shells.

WE consider them ESSENTIAL. And NEVER leave home with out them...

Truth be told, in the last 15/20 years we have killed much more game with CCI shotshells, than "regular" bullets with handguns.

A camo suit so if rescuers arrived I could hide until they left.

after a slight delay for a WTH ... that cracked me up! That fella reminds me of my gramps, who with a straight face, once told me that a friend of his ruined a perfectly good deer rifle by taking taking a shot at a buck that was too far away. Seems that it strained the barrel.

Depends on where the island is. If it's off the coast of Alaska, I would take a S and W .500 for bear and moose. If the island was off the coast of florida I think a .22 for squirrels would do just fine. If it was off the coast of Somalia maybe an rpg to sink the pirate boats and a good .357 to finish them off when they swim ashore.
