Could the 44mag guys answer a couple questions I have about 44mags please.

1. What dash model 29 and 629 in both 4" and 6", first came with the tapped screws so that a scope can be mounted on the revolver?

M29 4"
M29 6"
M629 4"
M629 6"

2. Are any of the models that have the tapped screws also P&R?

I am wanting a deer revolver to put a scope on, shots would be at most 100 yards. Can anyone see a reason why I would need the 6" over the 4" if shots a limited to 100 yards max. Of course that would be on a rest not free handed.

Thanks

The first Model 29 to be drilled and tapped for scope mounts was the 29-5 that was cataloged from 1991-1994. This model variation does not have a barrel pin or counterbored charge holes in the cylinder. In 1988, S&W made 3450 Model 29-4s with a top strap that was machined to accept scope rings. However, the system was too weak and was discontinued after being offered for a year or less. This revolver was neither pinned nor recessed.

If you practice with a 4-inch 44 Magnum and don't change loads for hunting, I see no reason why this barrel length won't work just fine. Practice and more practice is the key.

This 629-4 is factory drilled for a scope mount...

... I bought it with the intent to scope it with low powered optics.

I've fired it extensively with 240gr & 180gr ammo. The fixed sights have served me well at the distances I shoot, so I held off on the scope.

If I decide to scope this revolver it'll be a first for me. Never figured out how to carry a scoped handgun in the field anyway.:)

also check your local laws, a lot of places ( here in ohio for example ) you have to use a five inch or longer barreled handgun for hunting....

Its legal to use 4" where I hunt. GF, they do make scoped revolver holsters that you kind of where over the shoulder and it hangs the gun on your chest. Thats how my holster for my scoped .357 is anyways.

Thanks for info.
