Lately I have a penchant for the early High Standards. That and S&W DA's...Four pistols are shown below

1. MDL HD Military NIB wt papers circa 1947. 6 3/4 B. 140,000 were made.

2. MDL HE wt 4.5 B. 98% circa 1940 only 1000 of these were made with an estimate of only 225 to 350 with the 4.5 B.

3. MDL GO first mdl Olympic in 22 Short wt 4.5 B circa 1950 a weak 90% only 1200 were made with 3/4 of them in 4.5

4. MDL GE factory 2 B set (4.5 & 6 3/4 B) 99%+ circa 1950 with only 2600 made.

I would like to get the prewar Mdl D and E...

Your farther ahead then I am..I am gun poor.

I had a like new HD military of the older vintage with box n papers. It was NRA excellent and I asked one of the legends at my club about it and he said I could shoot it but he would not... he said sell it and get something else... He was right and I did but I almost wish I would have tried it out ;)

The workmanship was really good on it for sure!

At the start of the year I had a HD in the 4". At the Colorado Gun Collectors show I bought 3 of the HD's in the 7". One for me and each of my daughters. Because of this forum I also bought a Mdl 41. At the range the girls liked the HD's but loved the 41. I don't complain, at least they like to shoot.

I do also:)

Nice looking pistols there!

Overall I'd say High Standard's are my favorite 22 pistols. I like the grip angle, and the way they just feel and point. The quick release barrel take-down is a great feature too. Since they made so many there's always a nice selection of used ones in about any condition you'd want on the auction sites. IMO buying a nice used High Standard a good alternative to a new Ruger or Beretta.

Hi, If you are looking for some awesome Hi-Standards try giving Pro-Gun Services in Victor, NY a call. I was in there recently and the had a huge collection of collector grade Models for sale, most with boxes. Part of a big collection they purchased I believe. They may show some of them in the pistol section of their website but I know they don't have them all on there. Try Pro-Gun Services L.L.C. , maybe they have the ones you are looking for, Shoo

Okay, I checked myself, Pro Gun does still have quite a few Hi-Standards on the website. Talk to Pat if you call them and tell him Randy Schue sent ya, good huntin', Shoo

Deadin, I guess that thumb lever right behind the grip "looks" HS to me. Honestly you've got me, I'm not willing to bet anything on that. But I curious to what the answer will be. If not Woodsmans........

Well, you guys are right, #2 is an early HS Model B shipped in 1933. The other three are Hartford Arms Co. The top one is a single shot and the bottom two are Model 1925's.
The interesting part is that the parts on the 1925's and the Model B are pretty much interchangable. The only significant difference is the markings.
High Standard bought Hartford Arms around 1932 and continued assembling stock on hand as Hartfords, new production was marked as High Standard. (I would have to refer to my research, but I seem to remember that one of my Hartfords actually shipped later than the Model B.)

Here's an example of the markings: (My other Hartford has identical grips to the HS.)

The top one is different so it must be the one...EHHHHH I was WRONG.

I knew they were the predessors...but could not tell off hand which one was NOT A HS..

Thanks Deadin.......very nice examples of early HS; and I should have remembered that history of the brand as I read that doing research on my w-103 and w-105 a while back

tabs,
I have the same package as your HD Military (box, papers, etc.) only mine is in 4 1/2". My brother-in-law bought it in Spokane, WA in 1946 right after he mustered out of the Army after WW2. The price penciled on the end of the box is $46.00.

BTW, are those Ropers on your HE and the Olympic?? Nice!!!
