[/ATTACH] and I've already been offered $1000. I really thought I wanted an L frame carry but found out I'm just a K frame kind of guy. I understand this was a limited run of 2500 but this seems to be a good price for a quick turn over.

Not sure I understand what you are saying here. You just bought the 686 and decided an L Frame is not for you, and you want to sell the 686 and buy a K Frame?

19-4 + 19-6

19's 002.jpg I've got nice Kframes. I just don't care that much for the 686 and was asking if I should let it go for the $1000 offer or hold on to it.

I like K frames too, but a 3 inch 686-4? That's a gun that will make a lot of folks sit up and pay attention. I know I'd love to have one. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

686-4 special edition
These revolvers were produced with 3" barrels and round butt L frames. Only 2500 made. Serial number range: BLRxxx, indicating 1992 as year of manufacture. Fitted with black synthetic finger groove grips, with Smith & Wesson Logo. This revolver features the Original pinned Red Ramp front sight and Micrometer click adjustable White Outline rear sight. 104265 product code.

$1000 seems high. Last one I saw went for $765 w/ no box. JF

I can guarantee there was less. No matter what the book says that you quoted. :)

I would buy as many as I could for a 1000 The last you saw probably had a lock in the side.

These do not come up ever and when they do they always command a premium unless it's a seller who has no idea what he has.

jjbrewst1-see page 271 SCSW. I do know the difference between an IL and a pre-lock. JF

I understand you read that in the standard catalog. I'm saying I know these guns as I collect these and sell these. There was no where near 2500 686-4 3" guns produced period.

And I would love to see the AUCTION Where one sold for 765. Like I said somebody may have sold one for 765 without a clue, but at an auction there is not a chance in H**L

I watch Gunbroker by the minute and there hasn't been one on there this entire year.

BTW. 686-4 2.5" are bringing 1200-1600. How many of those were made. :)

And as I said before. Send me the " 2500" made for a grand apiece. I will gladly take them.

Mine must have been a special one :)

Shipped with Combat Stocks (CS) and A Black Ramp Sight, Shipped in 1994. It is A BRN serial prefix. So exactly opposite of what the Std Catalog says.

Sometimes you have to ignore books on certain models especially the blue book on gun values like the one at the range I shoot at. I would turn to specialists like jbrewst1 when it comes to rare production models.

The SCoSW is an indispensable resource, I sleep with one under my pillow, and though we call it "the bible" it's not infallible.

I was speaking in general terms & really about exceptions. I should get one of those sw I forgot the rest of the initials books. Could you suggest how I go about it?

Amazon.

Or wait until Decemberish. The new Catalog is coming out.

A few of us SWCA members had the chance to sit down with Jim Supica and Rick Nahas in Spokane and give some good input towards the next edition.

Pretty neat book and 2 pretty neat and knowledgable guys. Really looking forward to the book.

Thanks Jim for the heads up on the new edition coming out in December. I need an instant reference instead of having to ask questions here.

Yeah. But it's SO fun to ask them here.

Or just text me. I will help out anywhere I can...If I don't know. I can always ask the Kernel!
