Just bought my first model 59. It blue, does not appear to have been shot much, very minor wear. Unfortunately it did not come with a box. It has aftermarket wood grips. Very good looking gun. I can't wait to shoot it. I would like to know the manufature date. A424XXX

If you're interested, I'm sure I have a S&W Model 59 Factory Box with the original Factory Grips and Paperwork. Contact me off site at the email listed in my profile, and I will check the safe for you. And, yes, please post some pics of your pistol.

Best regards,

I just got a 59 too. Mine is in very nice condition with the box- I just added a set of smooth CocoBolo Hogue grips, and I picked up four almost new looking magazines on GunBroker.

I actually shot a IPSC match with my 59 in April. Got some strange looked from the CZ and Tupperware crowd. It ran like a swiss watch and the scores were respectable, the low score was from me dragging my 40 something butt at a less than lightning speed.

$350 in CT, where everything costs more, at the (probably) highest priced gunshop in the state. On the other hand, prices on GunBroker are in that range, I had no shipping or transfer fees, and I made a hands-on purchase, knowing that it was in great condition. At this point in my life, I'm more into having what I want, and I wanted a nice M-59. I'm a happy guy!

$350, not bad. I eventually want to replace one I lost in a burglary years ago. Recently there was a very clean model 59, box, papers, mags, about 98% in a store in the Denver area for $400. If I was in a position to have grabbed it I would have. Don't know if it's still there or not. One of these days.....

You'll like that old 59. I bought mine in 1979. I was a big "Starsky & Hutch" fan in those days, and I had to have one. I don't want to hijack your thread, but since you haven't shown us your 59 yet, I'll put up a pic of mine to tide us over...

Here's my S&W 559 that I bought back in 1982.

I should have photos up soon. When I bought mine I missed out on a nickle one by a day or so, I actually handled both, and waited too long. I am still happy with mine, and bought it based largely on the strength of a very nice M-39 I owned in the late 70's. I am not up on mag prices, but I got 4 in very good condition for $60 on GunBroker.

I would be very interested in the box. How much do you want?
