I just realized something

I spend more time mowing the range at the gun club I belong to that I do shooting at it. I spent a little over three hours this morning mowing and spraying the weeds. Usually do that 2 or 3 times per month. On top of that, I maintain the pistol targets and pick up the trash. Well, at least it looks nice for others.

You are a good man. I hope that they give you a free lifetime membership. A outdoor range I know of will give members a $50 discount on membership if they show up at x number of hours during range work days. Amazingly only bout 30% take advantage of the opportunity.

Do you have dibs on all the brass you can rake up?

How did you get "elected" (if that's what happened and it wasn't an iron horse "election") to that gig?

Whatever the process, my hat's off to you. And if the members aren't expressing their appreciation, they need to wake the hell up.

The membership dues are only $20.00 a year and I pretty much vacuum up all the range brass so it works out in the end. Other members mow the trap area. Before I joined and took it upon myself to mow, the rifle and pistol areas where unmowed and tick heaven.
At the yearly meeting, they do say thank you so it is not without recognition. We struggle in getting people for officers for the club.

I would have bet you took it on yourself--you sound like the kind of good, responsible guy who would do that.

But they need to be thanking you more often than at the annual meeting, if only for knocking down ticks and chiggers.

Thank you for your service on the range. Raise annual dues to $30, divide the extra money between groundskeepers and club officers. I'd cheerfully pay an extra $10 not to cut grass or be a club officer.

Like any organization, Board Members are always recognized, the real dedicated volunteers sadly are often overlooked.

So your done having a coffee in the lounge and leave your empty cup and wrappers on the table The trash container is only 5 feet away.

I belong to a fairly nice rifle club, we have part time range officers and one full time maintenance guy, he makes 10 bucks an hour. I figure that if you enjoy what your doing its all good, I enjoy pitching in to help the guy out when it looks like he could use a hand. I've pitched in helping with some pipe work and a couple of us ended up doing the entire railing job, experience helped. I spend three days a week down at the range, drinking coffee, shooting the bull and usually get in a day long shooting session, leaving around 3:00. Were down on the river so mornings are usually very nice, I often eat my breakfast sitting down by the river. I've noticed that most members don't contribute much in the way of help with the projects that are ongoing and often necessary to keep the place up, they figure their dues cover everything. The same guys never bring any coffee down or contribute to the coffee fund or bring donuts, yet drink coffee and eat a donut when they are available. Its human nature, some give, the rest take.
