I just traded my Ruger P345 for a Sigma SW40F with two 15 round magazines, $150 cash and a box of ammo. Think it was a good trade off? I'm taking it to the range tomorrow. I feel that if I were a girly man I would have a problem with the D/A trigger...but I'm not. Here are some pictures...

I'm not a fan of Ruger so I say sure. The 40f is a first generation so the is no rail for lasers and lights but that has never bothered me. I still say I like my 40V better than my m&p 40c. I think you will be happy.

How much did you shoot your P345? Go shoot the SW40F, and if you find yourself shooting it as much, or more than the Ruger, you "done good!"

If anything breaks, call S&W right away, tell them what happened, and let them take care of you and the repairs.

Then, go shoot some more! :D

I only shot the Ruger a few times. It was an alright pistol. It kicked like a mule compared to my 1911 and XD45. I really wanted to try the Sigma because I heard it was a sleeper. I figured with all that I was given for the Ruger I couldn't lose. Most of the problems about the early Sigmas seem to be hearsay and rumor that were spread early on because of it's similarity to the Glock. I haven't actually been able to find cases and pictures of cracked frames etc. I don't deny that it has happened because I've seen it happen to a Glock before as well as a CZ and Sig (I actually saw the photos). From what I have researched by people who actually own Sigmas, they are great pistols.

Ok, I took it out to the range today and shot 100 rounds through it. I shot it fairly well considering it was my first time with a Sigma and that type of trigger. I've posted my first target results below. This was with 165gr Federal FMJ at 15 yards. This is perfectly acceptable for me being I'm going to use this as a truck pistol. Recoil was very tame and enjoyable. The only issue was that when my wife shot it she had two rounds fail to fire. It looked as though the firing pin struck the round hard enough. I was wondering if this was an error on her part (as I never had that problem), the pistol, or the ammunition.

That is a fine-looking group, right there. If you have the budget, you might want to pick up a revolver  and shoot it double-action to build up your trigger finger. I have had my eye on the S&W 317 or 617 for some time, I figure I could shoot .22 all day and get a workout for little money with lots of fun. Last time I rented a 617 revolver, I found the trigger pull to be a bit heavier than the SW40F, but still quite controllable.

Enjoy your new toy!

Hi Texas Rifleman. I'm betting it was the ammo. I bought a box of AGUIA .357 Mags once and had several failures to fire with my Taurus 605. Even my brothers Marlin lever gun took several strikes to get the rounds to go off. What brand of ammo were you and the wife using?

Thats a bad trade. I would have kept the Ruger and made them give me that old Sigma so the dealer could save face.

Haha. I traded with a friend. I figured if I didn't like the Sigma I could sell it and use that money plus the $150 to get something else. But...I fell in love with the Sigma :D

We were shooting Federal FMJ ammo from Wally World.
