Well - there is another post in this forum about how on Thursday I went looking for a model 65 S&W, and (not finding anything close) bought a nice, clean 651-1 instead. I was happy, I had a new gun.

Today, I went to a local gun/knife/coin auction. There on the second line of guns to be auctioned, is a "NIB S&W 65 Lady Smith revolver".

sigh...

Yep - I was the high bidder.

So I think I better buy my wife something quickly.

Here are a couple of quick pics...

The Lady Smith is the cream of the 65 crop in my opinion. Great purchase!

What? You didn't buy the Lady Smith for M'lady?

She carries a S&W 640 .357 - I don't think she needs another .357

Great score. The Model 65 Lady Smith is a very nice revolver. It's beautifully balanced and pretty tough to find--especially NIB like yours.

I think you should not just get your wife a present, you should also make sure that she never sees that it's a "Lady Smith". Otherwise you may take it out of the safe for a range trip and find she has put pink grips on it to make sure you know that it's now hers.

She may just take that from you when she sees it, but I wouldn't want anyone else to have it either....but, you may just end up with that 640 .357 yourself. Be sure and tell her that the hammer might hang up on something. LOL.

Hmmm - I DO use that 640 for a demo gun when I teach the NRA First Steps class at the club... (before anyone cries foul - I always leave her with my Colt Cobra

)

To the idea of the pink handle - not just NO, but HELL NO!!!

In looking the gun over last night (65-5), I see that it has a MIM trigger (no, that doesn't bother me), but it looks like it is case colored - firing pin is on the hammer. The backstrap is grooved (I see pics of other 65-5 LS's that are not)... SN is CCR33xx

Not being an expert on S&W's, was this a transition gun between features offered, or one of the last ones made, or...???

Take care,
Bob S.

Messer,

Is the Model 65 Lady Smith the only version that has the full underlug?

Great looking piece! I've been looking for a 3" barreled Model 13 or 65 for a while now.

Regards,

Dave

hey Dave,

I believe that is correct - the std. 65 (and 13) have a unshrouded ejector - the LS has the shroud (and one of the reasons I was looking for one at a good price for about a year)

Take care,
Bob S.

Congrats and I agree. You now have the best barrel profile S&W ever shipped on a fixed sight 3 inch revolver.
