I lied, apparently.

For decades, I swore to friends that I would never buy a gun who's name sounded like someone in the bathroom after a night of partying. Glock. Well this past weekend, I broke that vow. I purchased a Glock Model 20 from a local individual. What made me cross the line? Was it the caliber? Nope. Was it the gun's reputation for reliability? Nope. In fact this gun can't even be fired. It's what's known as a cutaway.

For those who can't appreciate cutaways, that's OK, I understand, but being a dyed in the wool gearhead, I enjoy all things mechanical, and when you can peek inside, it's as good as it gets for someone like me! Sorry it had to be a Glock, but I just couldn't pass it up for the price. These were made for LE dealers only, and it came with the box that even says it's a cut away. And no, while it's completely operational, it is can not be fired.

Just want to let you know that it actually -IS- possible to safely and confidently exist on both sides of that fence. I simply do not care for Glocks and I don't often get drawn in to conversations about them. I loathe the way they look, I don't enjoy the fit in my hand really at all. But I did buy one in the fall of 2008 with the intention of carrying it IWB on my first carry license.

It was a Glock 29 (also 10mm) and I did indeed carry that handgun IWB for the next 6-7 years and my log says that I have fed 6,600 rounds through that handgun since I got it. I finally evolved to carrying a 9mm Walther PPQ (just my second EDC in eight years of carrying concealed) but the Glock 29 is still ready if called upon.

I still think it's horrible to look at, it feels not at all "perfect" in my hands but also since day one... I shoot it incredibly well and it runs like a top and never gives me any manner of grief. There's a strong argument that I should love it far more than I do, but the pistol doesn't seem to care either way. It just shows up for work when called upon and continues to impress me every single time I shoot it.

I'm not a gearhead but I always wanted to see a cutaway in person. You can read about how a specific gun functions but to actually see it makes it more understandable. I think it would be cooler if it was all clear plastic, that way you can see the whole thing work as you pull the trigger instead of having to flip it over

I like it! I have owned 4 Glocks and I've loved 'em every one. I have never owned a model 20 but in my opinion that is the best 10mm ever made. My buddy owned one and I have fired hundreds of rounds through it and it is a fine pistol. Very accurate right outta the box. If you ever get a chance to own one you might wanna thing twice before you let it get away from you.

I'd probably spring for the G40 instead. Under Glock's weird numbering system, that's the 10mm with a longer 6" barrel. Couldn't just call it G20L or G20S (for steroids). LOL. :D

Glock just gave them numbers in the order they made 'em . . .

They are actually patent numbers. Glock 17 was Glock's 17th patent

For the right price I would have bought it too. There's an old Army/Navy store downtown with a over sized 6' BAR cutaway. I asked once what he'd take for it. He just smiled.

Glocks are not my cup of tea, but even I can not dispute they are quite reliable, accurate and fully functional pistols. If I was a LEO in uniform I'd feel very comfortable with one of the high capacity models and a few spare mags on my duty belt.

Since I am not a LEO I've never taken the Glock plunge and really have no desire to own one. For HD NOTHING beats a 12 gauge scatter gun!

Congrats, very nice (and interesting) catch !
Thanks for sharing.

I carried Revolvers the first 35 years of my career. The last 10 years I carried a issued Sig but a revolver for backup.
Now I CCW and "Go In Harm's Way" is a Glock.

Neat toy. I like that. I saw some in the NRA museum but don't remember what they were as I saw many, many guns.

When I started reading I thought a non Glock person made an error one night and may need to borrow one of his wife's morning after pills. Thankfully that is not it.

P.S. My son is saving up for the 6" one for deer hunting from his tree stand. He has lots of videos of deer walking under the stand. One 6 pointer this year was eating under his stand for a while, then it would come back under him. He showed me the video. Bow season deer.

I found Herr Glock to be a quiet, studious, intense fellow during the few visits he paid to the Smyrna facility in the late '80s. But he did often look like he had an upset stomach. Might have been because he had to deal with the sales guys before being able to visit us few Morlocks in the back.

At the time I only recall one cutaway in country. But that might not be right. I do have a factory cutaway G17 magazine, so....
