I have purchased several SW revolvers in the past couple years and would appreciate help with dating their respective vintages.

1) SW 12-2 38 special air weight SN# D2351XX

2) SW 66-1 357/38 stainless SN #80K26XX

3) SW 19-5 38/357 nickel SN# AZE22XX

Trying to decide "shooters" vs "safe queens"

Thanks!

1. 12-2: D90001 - D330000 1969-1970
2. 66-1: 57K0001 - 91K6800 1980
3. 19-5: 1982-1987 - Are the letters turned around in your serial #? Or my reference is turned around. My reference says AEV through AFJ produced Nov. 1984. I do not find serial numbers starting with AZ.

If they're not at least 98% + with original box and accessories I'd shoot 'em and enjoy 'em, just take care of 'em and keep them oiled / waxed.

Welcome to the Forum,
Your Model 19 with the serial# AZE dates to about 1988. Be careful with the Model 12 as they are prone to frame cracking under the barrel where it screws into the frame. There are several threads on this issue. Otherwise enjoy them by shooting them.

Thanks all

None of them are perfect, so I bought them to shoot and enjoy. They all seem relative low round count and lock up is tight. I have had the grips off but not the side plates, unless I see a problem I think I will leave well enough alone for now.

Actually the model 12-2 has the least use, but I intend to run normal pressure 38 special factory rounds through it, and load it with one of the normal pressure 38 SD loads that are out there. I think it can be a great occasional carry option, if nothing else when around the house.

The model 66 stainless is like a tank and I shoot it better than my "new" 686 7 shot which started my revolver interest. Somehow I am better able to control the K frame than the L frame.

The model 19 is an nickel finish with a few imperfections, so I think I will just shot it as well.

I buy them to shoot, and find the triggers are generally smoother and better than the new offerings out there.

TEACH A MAN TO FISH.

Members here, except me are generally too nice to say, but there are stickies in place to DIY. If your next ? is , what's a sticky, go ahead & ask.

divotmaker,
They look very nice. Certainly good enough for your first "Like". Enjoy them!
