Iffen the thumb piece is tight on the stud..........Ya be good to go.

I have tryed to tighten it more , but only damaged screw still there is a gap a lnd wiggle

To me, it sounds like the screw is too long. I would take a file to the end of the screw to shorten the threaded section. Two or three passes and put it back together. If it still wiggles, two more passes with the file. Easy does it. Very hard to add to the length!

Normal don't mess with it. Many have damaged the nut as you have ( it's not a screw) some wiggle more than others. It's the tolerance of the bolt in the frame.

It's normal. I just checked 15 of mine of various models. They all have some play/wiggle. It's normal because that's the way parts are fitted. If it was so tight there was no play then it would bind.
Don't worry about it. That is perfectly normal. The screw just holds the thumb piece to the stud. It's not there to tighten anything on the internal parts.

If you do that the thumbpiece will begin to rub on the frame causing damage to the finish.

It does look like the button has too much of a gap between it and the frame. Maybe the screw is just a little too long?
I must say though, if you got a new S&W revolver and that is the only problem it has, consider yourself lucky.
The thumbpiece sits on top of the stud on the bolt. There needs to be clearance of the thumbpiece and frame or it will rub as you push it forward. Replace nut and leave it alone.

just so you don't have to ask a 9th time - yes, it's normal; and yes, you can replace the "thumbpiece nut" for about $6 - if you really feel the need .....

It's stainless steel, you can do a little filling and sanding and polish it up almost like new. If you have minimal skills

I have options 637 enchaned action or 642 performance center.
Which is better?
