I need new boots... again...Any suggestions?

Whites are rebuildable and last for years. If you only get 7 or 8 years out of them you have tough duty.

Gator, I worked outdoors on my feet for over 30 years. Lots of guys have lots of ideas about boots. I learned early on that you do not want to scrimp on boots. If you take care of your feet, they will take care of you. I settled on Red Wing boots and I am very happy with them. If you go to a Red Wing Shoe Store, not just a dealer but a factory store, they have a machine to measure your foot. They can do mis-matched sizes, one foot different from the other. If you buy your boots from them they will oil them for you for the life of the boot. Also give you new laces if you need them. Right now I have 2 pairs. I wear them on alternate days. One pair has been back to the factory twice for new soles, and the other has been back at least 3 times. Eventually the top leather will wear out. I tried a bunch of different brands before I settled on Red Wings, but once I tried them I have been very happy.

+1 on Red Wings. Quality boots & made in the USA. (some of their foot-wear is from China)

I buy only Danner. You need to buy a bit large since they will shrink when wet. I recommend you NOT buy sight unseen and trying them on first is absolutely mandatory. Get a stitchdown sole so it can be easily replaced. I use a Super Rain Forest work boot as my duty boot, since I have hammer toes and need the bigger toe box. The leather is 3mm thick and triple stitched and I do not think it possible that I can wear out this boot during my lifetime.

I happen to know alot about boots but mainly hiking boots.

The above is the most comfortable boot you will ever wear. It is NOT a hiking boot. the leather will naturally darken with wear and when conditioned, but I keep mine clean and they are fine to wear to church. They will last a very long time when worn day to day.

My experience with Redwing hiking boots is not so good. With me, 50-100 miles and I throw them away. They have great non slip soles, but they wear out very quickly on my feet.

Vasque makes great boots. I've been through three pair of hiking boots that I wore every day. The soles are not meant for daily wear on pavement though. I totally trashed a pair in three months walking my dog 2-4 miles every day. That was expensive. Mine had great arch support with a built in plastic mid sole. They reqired very little break-in time.

Danner is my second choise for boots. The are comfortable and hold up very well. If their product line is as well made as their hiking boots, then I'd reccommend them. My only negative about my Danners is the soles are to hard and wet weather traction suffers. But then they will last a very long time. Weather (water) protection was great with my all leather Danners.

The best boot I have ever had (and still have) are my Limmer Boots. They make ultralights, lights, mid weights, and standard weight. I have the light weights. They are all lether insside and out. All Limmers except for the ultralights are build with replaceable soles. Break-in requires a commitment. It took me 75-100 miles to get to really enjoy these boots. Now they feel like gigantic house slippers. I don't guess there is anything else like them. Keep them clean and greased with Limmer boot grease and wear them to church. They are only available through the Limmer website. They will send you instructions on how to measure your feet and then send you a pair of off the shelf boots based on those measurements. If you so desire, with lots of money and time, they will custom build your boots based on your measurements.

Good luck
