While Ted may come off as rude, crude, and somewhat socially unacceptable,
he does have the guts to stand up and say what he believes........
Many gun owners won't even wear gun related / logo apparel.
Ted will go toe to toe.
We certainly aren't going to get anywhere with "compromise". We can only negotiate away a right. Does anyone think we can negotiate for more gun ownership rights? Perhaps the elimination of all background checks and abolition of class III restriction? We had better stop fooling ourselves and realize who it is that is against us and what they are actually willing to do.

I don't think Ted represents us very well --- his condescending and imperious demeanor can't help but be off-putting to those who don't already have a sympathetic opinion to our arguments. Yes, he's a rock star, no, he's not a slick PR guy. He comes across, I think, as a self-important show-off, not the level-headed, cerebral spokesperson we ought to have putting our best foot forward...

I don't think Terrible Ted hurts a thing. We've been using logic and reasoned arguments since I can remember, and we still keep losing ground. Why not go with some bombastic emotion laden pandering to the public?

You mean like the leading anti-gun proponents, Feinstein, Pelosi, Biden, Cuomo, Bloomberg, etc.? Playing it straight and diplomatic will not work with the fanatics who are trying to destroy 2A. That's why I think someone like Ted is needed to stir things up, and not just take it without vigorous return fire.

Ted isn't afraid to tell the media talking-heads exactly WHY they're a bunch of idealistic twits......and that's refreshing. I'd vote for him. In fact, my back car window still has a "Ted Nugent for President" bumper sticker attached. Apparently Uncle Teddy designed it, it's too durned stubborn to come off!

I'm sick of ***** footing around. We, as gun owners, have spent our whole lives on the defensive. I think it's time we become loud and proud. Ted's the man for that job!

There are more gun loving celebs. out there. Ted is just very vocal about it.....I will take Teds out front approach over all the non NRA, gun owners that just sit back and do or say nothing and go with what is the prevailing opinion at the present time. The Motor City Madman puts his money where his mouth is....It is refreahing to see a celeberty that is proud of our gun rights...I guess some would set back and let what happened in Russia, China, and other country's..even I might add Austrailia lost their rights to protect their freedom ,just slowly evaporate.......Give one right away and just watch what happens to the rest..It can be a slow process but it is comeing slow or not..Let us not set on our duffs and watch what happened in Austraila happen here.....The Man From Snowy River is no more!!!! or he forgot to vote..

Read the interview in which he gleefully recounts the extraordinary lengths he went to in order to avoid military service... literally defecating in his pants, among other things, before reporting to the conscription center ... and I think you might change your opinion of the guy. Sure, he's good for a laugh every once in a while, but I personally think we could do better than that chickenhawk clown for a spokesperson.

Now for everyone who doesn't think Ted is the man for the job, please nominate some individual who could be. I'd like to see an army of spokespersons, one in every city and town in the country, who aren't afraid to speak truth to false power, and place their principles right out there.
Just look at who we are up against: a woman spokesperson here, a businessman there, a Jewish leader here, a Latino singer there, a Vietnam veteran here, an avowed Communist there, a black activist reverend and a porn star, just for starters.
The antis are broad based, and we are more than just second amendment advocates. We are broad based too. We need Rock Stars, and soccer moms and trapeze artists and police officers and politicians and milkmen, preachers and school teachers and scientists.
I'm going to try to avoid disqualifying every spokesperson based on my personal grudge or resentment, and that ain't easy, but it's time to stop being picky.

Ted comes across rough cut, but he lives the lifestyle - freedom, guns, hunting - he can afford to with the career he's had. He could also do like many others - enjoy all that and keep quiet for fear he won't be 'liked' or invited to the right parties.
As far as the draft . . . I had not heard about some of the things related here and don't know the truth of it and how much is just a good story . . . but lots of guys jumped through hoops not to go and time , age, and wisdom have a way of making us regret decisions we made in the foolishness of our youth. I can understand (but not necessarily sympathize more) that someone at that age with a celebrity career living the high life and making more money than they ever dreamed of not wanting to give all that up much more so than those who dodged with college deferments and political connections in the 'old boy network. Those things are easier to hide.
Is he the best spokesman for 'polite company'? Not by a long shot. But those who have observed that polite reasoning and compromise haven't gotten us anywhere have hit the nail on the head. If they stand me up against a wall I'm afraid my last moments won't be conciliatory and pleading for mercy - likely I'd come close to 'losing my religion' for my defiant attitude at the last . . . comes a time when polite discussion don't cut it.
Algore and Kerry both served . . . and they're fine examples, aren't they ?

One way to look at it is people like Nugent are the lightning rods that say what need to be said while the bulk of firearms owners can afford to be more "mainstream". If we were all like Ted the dividing lines would be a lot more concrete with those on the fence now - we'd scare the bulk of them to the other side. But he serves a purpose. He says what needs to be said and takes the heat the rest of us can't afford to at times. He gets away with it from those 'on the fence' (who may indeed not like him or be put off by him) BECAUSE he's a rock star, brash and full of himself.
Just like the military, there are grades and degrees of weapons and force we can use - Ted is the 'bunker buster' when need be, affording the rest of us the luxury of using something more innocuous . . .
I've never been a fan of some of Nugents's shenanigans ........ but, I would encourage everyone to watch the full interview he did with Piers Morgan before they comment in this thread.
I just finished watching it (I googled it up) and Ted Nugent did an outstanding job of speaking up for gun owners and the 2nd Amendment IMO.
Ted was well-spoken and under control and didn't allow P. Morgan to bully him or shout-him-down. My hat goes off to Ted Nugent!!
We all owe him a big thank you IMO.

Ted Nugent certainly stands behind a lot of what we believe in, but I think Tom Selleck or some one like Tom would be better received by the general public. Remember, it's NOT US that needs convincing, it's the OTHER SIDE. Ted would be a turn-off to a lot of the people we are trying to convince. Just think what a crowd of Lib's would think of a guy showing up in camo who came in with a pick-up with a gun rack in the back. We need someone who is seriously accepted by the other side as a "reasonable" representative. Again, you don't need to convince anyone HERE, you need to turn our opponents.
When the Left sends in a politician to pass more gun control they always try to convince gun owners they are pro gun by showing photo's of them shooting - like the recent obama phony staged photo. Just saying.............

There is no convincing the other side of anything ... the polarization on 2A has become too great. That's why we need a very vocal, take no prisoners, spokesperson. Is Uncle Ted the man for the job? I don't see anyone else stepping up to the plate, and Ted could possibly light a fire under the apathetic fence sitters who are afraid to climb down on the right side of the fence.
I nominate Mr. Tomas Selleck. better T V personality.
