Thanks for everyones helpful ideas...it took about four hours but its done....
I have never taken one down this far as I keep all mine clean..this one was a mess...I found some sponge matterial that had a white nylon brillo on the other side (its used for cleaning tile after you apply grout to whipe it down) seemed to work very well, removed virtually all the scratch marks and didnt polish the finish. I kept moving in the same direction as the lines in the factory finish to eliminate swirls. You tell me..what do you think?
Question for the DX owners, the action on this gun is very, very smoooooth. I have several other 629 classics, 29 hunters etc and this is sooo smoooth double action. Did smith do anything to these (dx's) differently to make the action that good?
