From what I can see you did a good job!

I put YHM flip up on my old generation Sport. Put it on for the simple reason I do not like my red dot co-witnessing with my front sight, but that is just me. Removing the A2 is cut and dry, it is no big deal to remove as some people think it is, you just jump in and take your time. Hell, even added a free float while I was at it. Nice job and enjoy. :)

Cut and dry yes, but it can be a big PIA sometimes to get the pins out.

OP, your rifle looks good.

OK got to ask how much work was it to get the triangle plate switched from the old front site to the new one? Did it just stay put when you took the old site off or was it firmly attached?

I think you're referring to the plate behind the gas block that the handguard locks into? That was free spinning and not attached at all. The gas tube that runs through it lines it up. It was a non factor. The hardest part was getting the roll pins out of the A2, let them soak in penetrating oil for about 5 minutes and don't be shy with the hammer.

Just to clarify they're taper pins, so you have to make sure you beat them out in the correct direction, right to left for the M&P, which is the opppsofe direction to most rifles.

Correct, you can see with the naked eye which side is the narrow end. I did measure each end of the rollpins with calipers just to be safe. Large side was about 14 tenths and small was 12 tenths. The barrel tip was facing to my left when I knocked them out, same orientation as pictures #2 and #3 above.

That's the one, thanks.

Second question, how did you get the old A2 assembly off the barrel? Did you remove the flash hider?

Yeah very easy, I think it took a 3/4 inch wrench and took much less effort than expected. I didn't even need to put the barrel in a vise.
