Last Saturday, visiting my local Gander Mtn, to kill time. I wasn't looking for anything specific, but I saw this in the "Used" section. I couldn't believe the $$$. I asked too check it out.

What is it? A 2-1/2" P/R 19-4. I looked it over well. A slight turn line on cylinder, a small scratch on left side of barrel, and possible holster wear. Not sure on that though. It's from '77 - '81. When Smiths were quality.

It has been shot some, but not much. It is is in great condition. I wasn't looking to buy, but I have been looking for a .357 for a while. All the ones I kept finding were overpriced IMHO.

I left w/out, but I couldn't stop thinking about it & the price. So what do I do. I return Saturday evening and there is a "Dude" Looking at it. OH NO.😱. Luckily, he didn't get. I did, on the cheap.😎. Christmas comes early.😉

I hate the grips. To which I have already found some nice original wood grips on eBay. I hope to hit the range this weekend to put her through her paces. I'll let you know how she does. It's a Smith, so I know she will not disappoint.

Thanks,

CCO

P.S. See update below for price & updated pic😄😄😀😊☺️😉

How good of a deal was it? If you don't mind me asking. Congrats on the find.

Yep. Great find.
I bought this one (a 19-3) at a gun show a couple years back for $525. It was wearing ugly square butt Pachmayr grips. I first put correct Magna stocks on it and then added the ivory more recently. These are wonderful guns.

Back in the 1980s I knew an FBI agent in West Texas who carried a short-barreled Model 19. I always liked it. He was one of those guys who always made sure that anyone he talked with saw it. Sort of an intimidation tactic, I guess.

Gun looks good! If it was mine, grips would have been taken off in nothing flat. Have gotten 6 sets or so of wood on ebay. I have no K frame .357's. Just L's & N's. Bob

All right, you teased it -- what'd you pay? :)

Model 19 snubbies are on my short list of perfect, all-purpose S&W revolvers; love the balance and proportion.

I agree that the full-size S&W "fish scale" grips don't look quite right, but don't trash them -- they're actually good grips. For my money (and my hand), service magnas and a Tyler-T grip are the perfect balance on the 19 snubby.

Don't forget to give it a good mechanical check and thorough cleaning. Enjoy. ;)

Congrats on the purchase. The grips don't look bad and am sure function as they should but it needs some wood shoes IMO.
Now to brag about "on the cheap" and not disclose the price is not very "forum friendly" to the nosey members among us. :)
Inquiring minds wanna know???

"On the cheap" is a relative term. What's it mean in your part of the country. In California, anything less that $700 for a nice 19 2.5 would would be considered cheap or reasonable. lol I recently talked an LGS down from $699 to $675 with a couple boxes of ammo thrown in - I thought I did OK. The suspense is killing some of us.

I stole, I mean got this on the cheap, Part Deux😎

Ok, Ok. Ya'll wanna know what I paid.

Well, to add insult to injury. Gander Mtn gave me a $25 gift card for buyin' the used gun. The gift card was offered for purchases between $249.99(x) - $499.99(y). So, they gave me $25 buck to relieve their inventory of this fine Smith Mod 19-4. Sweet, isn't it?

Well, to tell you what I paid is to easy. You're gonna have to do some algebra to figure it out. I paid between 80% of "y" & 160% "x" = What I paid.😋. Of course there is sale tax, too.😠

And, today, I received in the mail the nice dark stained S&W wood grips and the Tyler T-Grip adapter. Check out the pic. Now, that's a sweet piece of iron.

Thanks to all for the comps. Mucho appreciated.☺️
