Please don't take this as a political post, because it isn't. I just want to get off my chest something I have a gut feeling about, and when my gut usually tells me something is wrong, it's wrong.
I think America as we know it is on borrowed time. I don't know or have any idea how long we have, but I think that when it fails, it is going to go fast and most of the population won't know what to do, people I am afraid will die. I have studies history for as far back as I can remember, and in high school my government studies was done on the French Revolution, I read alot on that and I think we are stuck in the year 1789. People were hungry, they were tired and they were angry. Eventually hunger gave way to rage, but in the end the French suffered because out of the Revolution came terror and then Napoleon who marched the French army into one war after another until he was finally beaten. This was a man who crowned himself Emperor, out of a revolution that sought liberty, equality and fraternity.
I have seen riots, I was smack in the middle of one when I was 16 before I could get out of the way in 1992. It is stunning how fast a crowd can turn violent. I saw another one in 1994 after a concert went bad. Those were for little things, what is going to happen when people can't pay their bills anymore, feed their kids or get them medicine. Look at the panic right now over the flu, people are walking around in public wearing masks. When my wife and son and I were at the local ER last week the halls were filled with people wearing masks, only making more people sick. People are already been turned away, the news is telling people to stay away but in the next sentence saying their is an epidemic. I could only imagine if a real one hits.
Today on the news there was a near riot in Michigan for Section 8 housing. People darn near trampled pregnant women and the elderly for a voucher to get free government housing. I wonder when the bread lines that we saw in the old black & white footage from the 1930's will start up again, seeing how people nearly kill each other over stuff on Black Friday, what will food lines look like if they run out with hungry people still in them.
I have been hoping to make my house and where I live as self sufficient as possible. I have fresh water, wood, but I want to get a better generator and possibly a boiler stove to better heat the house. I also want to expand my garden and put up a greenhouse for more vegetables. I plan to eventually raise rabbits and even a goat for milk and meat if need be. Guns and ammo, well I have enough for what I need for the moment. I have plenty of brass, lead, powder and primers for my .357 and .38 plus a lot of .22 ammo which I would use for small game and if I needed deer I have plenty of black powder, musket caps, Minie balls and even a mould to cast more.
The worst part is that people are scared, and the government, all of it, is making people more scared. They tell them if they don't get more money then the tap will be turned off and their free stuff will go bye bye. I am appalled to see how few people out there have any idea that their taxes even went up until they noticed it in their paychecks, then they started blaming "big business" most didn't even know about the payroll tax hike.
People are only going to take so much for so long. I am certainly not advocating anything but I think it is inevitable. What gets me is that so many were so eager to have the rich folks taxed that they don't have a clue when the business pays more, the people buying their products will have the cost past along to them.
I think that America is in trouble. I think everyone should start praying but also start preparing because I think we might be looking at the last years of America as we know it. This country is bleeding and bleeding badly and everyday we see more little cuts being made instead of bandages. I hope I am wrong, but that gut feeling tells me I am not, and since I am only in my thirties, I have hopefully a long way to go before the end and I wonder if this country has 30 or 40 years left as it is. I don't believe it does.

David,

The make wood burning cook stoves, complete with ovens, check those out too. Solar Heat is a good thing as well.

I agree, I feel we are headed toward an event, I'm just not sure if it's 1861(Red/Blue) or 1789. JMO. I know the middle class is not going to sit around forever as it gets closer to poverty. That much I'm sure of.

There's just too many in this country that expect "something for nothing". It's the old ant and the grasshopper thing X's 47% of the population. There will be hell to pay if this drought continues across the U.S.. You have to admit mother nature couldn't have picked a worse time to whip up all these devastating "once in a lifetime" storms. It is pretty depressing to see how things are shaping up.

"While the State exists, there can be no freedom. When there is freedom there will be no State." Lenin "State & Revolution" 1919!

I do worry, mostly about our children & grandchildren, what do they inherit?

I've had these same feelings of dread for a long time now. Look at what's happening in Europe. I fear we may be down to months, maybe even days.
I do know that when the collapse comes that it'll be hard, fast and extremely ugly.
God help us all.

David, I could not have said it better. This current administration and the media are dividing this country along many lines. We all know the old saying..."united we stand, divided we fall".
I agree and have felt the same way for the last 20-30 years, having also been a student of history. This current bunch only proves the intent.
Having said that, I also agree that it is inevitable and have prepared for the event.

It figures that this would happen just when I finally got a few bucks in my pocket.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels the way you do. I hope I am just paranoid about the future of tjis country, but I dont think so. Thanks for posting this

I have thought, at my age, that I probably wouldn't be around when things finally exploded. Now I am not so sure.

I think you're right, but we can't discuss it in any depth without getting into politics.

Truer words were never spoken, but that's usually the case,
not always mind you, on threads that start off with:

This is not a political post. ;)
