That is a shame.

A lot of amateur gunsmiths don't seem to know that you have to keep the sideplate in place when sanding or buffing so that the fit stays tight. Same thing applies when sanding a rifle stock - have to keep the butt plate in place to keep the fit nice.

So-called professionals do this too--regularly--and they also polish the yoke off the gun.
