I sent my 15-22 back to Smith on January 30th and I just got it back today February 9th. I'd say that's pretty damn good turn around!

The gun did NOT come back dirty (yes you could tell it was test fired but the barrel looks like it was cleaned) and the rifle was lubricated. They must have read my note because they included a pair of the new "25 Round" magazines.

And now on to some things I've noticed...

They changed the amount of trigger pull, the hammer spring has been replaced it's now blue in color and much lighter than what originally came in the rifle. They also changed the recoil spring on the guide rod and it now is also blue in color and lighter in recoil than the original spring. They replaced my broken mag release and maybe I'm nuts here, but the charging handle looks like the "catch" where it locks the charging handle to the flat top is different (that part I may just be crazy on).

The repair order plainly states that they changed all the springs and brought the gun up to current "spec" and it looks to me like the ejector has been replaced, it rides right up against the bolt now.

I am a very happy camper! Can't wait to put her through the paces!

so they pretty much done to your rifle what ive done to mine... sweet .. even a blind hog can pick up an acorn every now and again:D:D:D

Slack,

What do you want pictures of? I will shoot them tonight, just let me know what all parts you wanna see. If you just want to see my rifle, I already have those pics :)

Brett,

I know this is gonna be as bad as the Seat-Of-The-Pants meter we use for determining Horsepower increases in cars with mods.. But it sure feels like the trigger pull went from 7Lbs to 3.... :)

will do!

Gonna eat supper then I will set up and snap the pix for you all, I will also get good pics of the bolt (extractor and ejector).

I'd like to see pics of the internals. New springs and charging handle. Is there a difference in the new recoil spring other than color? Don't mean to be a P.I.T.A. Thanks Brett

CP,

Correct! They say
22LR
25 Round

Slack,

I do not know if there is a difference on the recoil spring without a spring measuring tool, but I assume they lightened the spring rate to ensure that the bolt cycles properly. There is no "velocity adjuster" like there is on the Umarex 22LR and it's possible that when Smith originally designed this rifle they used a super stiff recoil spring and with cheaper ammo it wouldn't cycle the bolt fully. Of course this is pure speculation on my part but I have a firm grasp on how things work and I have a feeling there is more to it than just blue paint on the spring, there would have been NO reason for Smith to swap the springs on this rifle other than if the new springs were a revision change.

Sorry I didn't snap a photo of the charging handle, I don't really think they changed it.

Photos are uploading now.. Will update the post as soon as they finish.

I think you are exactly right. It's nice to see S&W is doing more than just swapping out extactors and tweaking the ejector. I wish these parts were available without returning the rifle. I'll be anxious to hear how it shoots. Thanks again.:)

Looks like S&W went thru your 15-22 all the way. What was the reason you sent it back to them?

It came out of the box with a fracture in the Mag Release where the pin was pressed into the release. After inserting and removing the magazines a few times the release broke off of the pin. I also had a stove pipe when I test fired it (on very old junk ammo) but I said in the note to them that I wanted the whole rifle gone through, I wasn't happy that new out of the box it had a broken mag release and I also wanted 2 mags even though I heard they had stopped giving out free mags.

Well written letters get results!

And here is the photographic evidence for your evaluation!

Thanks for the pics. Didn't you say the charging handle may also be different? Post a pic of that so we can compare. :D

With all the change of springs, I may just have to feed my 15-22 a few magazines of good old RGBs  ;) :D

That is different! My ejector does not ride nearly thet far over. Mine does eject good though.

One thing for sure, I think rip3000 was on to something about his difference in mags

Thanks for the pics, Brett. I agree with you Corporal, but I like the idea of lighter springs, too. I wrote S&W for a "new" magazine. I'll post my results in the thread you created when/if I get it.

So does it look different guys? I don't remember it having such a big finger grip area and I don't remember it positively "snapping" onto the upper receiver as it does now.... But I may be out of my mind...

Ok I didn't really have it long enough to store any long term memory, but I don't remember it locking as well as it is now... Who knows!

But they changed the springs 4 sho!
