I think this guy lost on the deal...

Those AR's looked pretty used, like maybe some worn out range guns. These programs don't make a lot of sense and from what I've heard about that sheriff in L.A. county he doesn't either. At the very least the collectibles should go to a museum.

I've been slowly collecting POS guns in case they have a exchange program around here. . . guns that look functional but that I wouldn't shoot on a dare.

So far, I've got four revolvers and a .22 rifle (a Stevens). If I went squirrel hunting with the rifle the squirrels would probably extend the social finger and fall out of their trees laughing.

That guy must have some shingles missing from his roof.

I'd put money that this was a ploy and the person turning them in was hired or told to do it.

Easy way to make it "look" like it's working- no questions asked and no way to ever figure out if it was legit or not.

I smell a rat.

Or he smelled a cat. Maybe he's got a really hot liberal girl friend. . . :D

Do you suppose they ballistic test those guns against crimes? And what good would it do if they did find a match? That would be embarassing to have gave $50 no questions asked!
However I want to belive they were video tapeing from cover the guns, people that brought them in and at least their license plate #s.
If they didnt, LASD is dumber than me, and haveing known plenty of them, I dont think they are!

There is a lengthy thread on a California gun forum that these ARs are actually either movie prop guns (would explain the wear) or Jager 22LR copies. The talk is that there are no charging handles, safetys, or mag releases. Not that the LA Times would know the difference or care to report it.

Surely, a fine upstanding rag like the LA Times wouldn't miss a beat on accurate reporting concerning guns...

" ...another person left 11 guns, including a Thompson .45-caliber submachine gun, an SKS assault rifle and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle."

Ya figure some cherry pickin' was taking place by the Sheriffs Department?

Look at this pic carefully....all those rifles look identical...maybe they photoshopped it to make it look like more "assault" rifles then there were...wouldn't be beneath the LA Slimes...

How would you like to be the officer collecting weapons at a buy-back? From folks who have no idea of safe gun handling, and don't even know if it's loaded? I hope they're wearing their vests....

Man if you look at the additional photos the guns look unshootable. I would turn in worthless guns for cash too.:D

I bet daddy died and left them to his Metrosexual Boy and he just couldn't stand to have them in the house and just think how much Crack and Meth they will buy.

Rule 303

I wonder are they going to check to see if any are stolen and give them back to the original owner or just destroy them

Hahahahahahahahaha

My bet goes with "prop" guns/non working models...

My hats off to him!

I had three non working junk guns I acquired over the years to use as "projects" or art- the recievers and parts were not worth squat and when I heard of a local "buy back" program that was offering 100.00 certificates for acme click food or tennis shoes... well

I was gonna fill my freezer with meat until I heard the majic phrase " acme gift card or dicks sporting goods gift cards" ... I could hardly keep a straight face as I waited to be processed. I turned the 300.00 gift card into a 17hmr savage rifle with scope on the way home!

I like that rifle and I smile everytime I think of the story behind it ;)

I am collecting stuff for the next time :D

I think the guy did pretty good. The other pictures show a lot of "junk" guns...Jennings, Lorcin, etc. Plus the beat up .22 Armis.

A couple of years ago a local gun club collected a pile of unworkable and not worth the cost of repair guns and turned them in at the annual Chicago gun buy back. They got $100 for each of them which was spent on new .22 target rifles for the juniors. If you can take advantage of these useless programs, I say go fo it! :)

The lapd probably just turned in their own AR's so they could buy milk to go with their liberal donuts.

I like the story about one of these gun buy backs when the officer asked the guy who had turned in some junk guns.

"What are you going to do with the money?"

The guy says.

"IM going to buy a good gun."
