I just purchased my first Colt. It's also the first non S&W weapon I've purchased in years...

I'm very excited for it. I wanted a 1911 in 9mm to run in Single Stack Minor at USPSA matches and also for bowling pin shooting. (Now I won't be sad if I lose brass)

What do you guys think? I'm spoiled with S&W's lifetime warranty. Apparently Colt has a bumper/bumper for a year. However I've never heard anyone really say Colt sucks.

So far I'm looking at Dawson Precision for extra mags.

I've got one of the new government 9mm 1911's and it changed my mind about what the right caliber is for a 1911. It is so smooth and fast with low recoil. Everyone I show it to says "9mm?" And then they shoot it and say I need one of these. Enjoy it!

Ah, a Competition. Excellent choice.

Now for the problem: Will you be satisfied with only one 1911 be it Colt, Smith, Ruger, Springfield Armory, Dan Wesson etc. etc. etc.?

The 9 mm is actually taking over the 1911 sales. Among other proponents, no less than Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat, who has produced a zillion .45s, believes the 9 is really the best choice.
His personal carries are one of his compact 9 mm 1911s or compact Beretta 92.

He made, at least in my estimation, a startling comment in his new book Gun Guy that the 9 mm really works better in the 1911 than the .45 ACP which he says has always been a bit problematic.

In the 1990's, I helped an idiot out, he wanted $600 for a 9mm Government model and a 9mm Commander (Both Colts) to come up with money for drunk driving fines.

I let dad have them, and he still does. I have kept every 38 Super that came my way!

The new Colt 1911s are excellent. Probably as well made or better than they ever have been,
I'm sure the 9mm versions are just sweet.
If I wanted a 9mm though, I'd get a HiPower...which I did.
To each their own. For me? 1911= .45acp

I just put a Colt Competition Stainless .38 Super on lay away Saturday. Nice gun, good fit and finish. I wanted another .38 Super to replace the RIA I sold last year, and this Colt seems ideal. The Novak sights are a big improvement over the GI sights on the RIA. Fortunately I kept my .38 Super ammo and Wilson mags when I sold the RIA.

Just bought my first 9mm 1911 this week. Bought from GB and can't wait to shoot it. Colt New Agent.

I just bought the same game gun a few weeks ago. Looking forward to shooting it, but the weather and the flu aren't cooperating!
I wanted one the first time I saw it, and I'm not really sure why. Feels nice in the hand. Like most 1911s, I guess. Congrats.

Congratulations, I love my Colts. I never buy one without handling it first, for some reason some have a mushy thumb safety and fitment can be iffy, but when you find a nice tight one, buy it. The image of the "Clapp" Colt is a stock photo as this is still in law-a-way soon to be picked up in the next couple of weeks.

You can never have enough!!

Good to hear positive feedback about this. My S&W 1911 PD 5" has set the bar quite high. Even though it's an aluminum frame I have ran at least 6-7k through it and I even purchased it used. It shoots groups are usually all 8 rounds are touching or damn near through the same hole at 25ft.

First range trip is tomorrow morning. I'm excited.

I love the new Colts (and the old ones too!). My Super is probably considered a "base model" compared to the newer Competitions but its been good to me.

I took out a Dan Wesson Guardian , a Rock island GI, and a Colt to the range the other day.
The Colt was the most accurate.
I got SOOOOO lucky to find that BNIB Colt here in Kali a few months ago.
Edit. All in 38 Super. 6.0 grs. Power Pistol, PPU brass, WSP primers, 125 gr Truncated lead.

Range report:

First day was good but had a few issues. #1. The brass was flying straight back hitting me in the face/safety glasses. #2. The slide was not staying locked to the rear when the last round in the mag was fired. 150 rounds were fired through it.

Day two. (Today) I ran 200 through it and the slide now locks back correctly. Only two pieces came back and tagged me in the face. Accuracy is fantastic.

I'm thinking my M&P Load might not be the best in this gun. The recoil is so light it almost feels like the gun is broke! haha. I'm running 4.1gr of titegroup with an xtreme 124gr round nose at 1.150 OL. Might be a little soft and it wants a slower powder.

Yesterday I ordered some Dawson Precision 10 round mags. Hopefully they are in before Thursday. I plan on running this a pin shoot Thursday.

I prefer handguns from the big 3 as I call them, Ruger, Colt and S&W. Each gun manufacturer offers something different. Nothing wrong with branching out to other manufacturers.

No one does nickel finish like Colt and S&W nobody. My colt 1911 gov model in nickel is priceless. Have you looked at a S&W nickel N frame lately?

The Ruger seems to be one of the strongest revolvers.

Each manufacturers gun has different offerings.
