The box was new and factory sealed. I guess that is today's quality control.

QC now days? Was bad ammo in the past unheard of?

With hundreds of millions of rounds being produced for consumption, I think 1 or 2 may slip through.
 
I have been experiencing QC for decades. Overall, actually I think QC may be better today than it was in 1955.... New technology culls out a lot of things that would have been missed by old-fashioned humans. Believe me, I have seen a lot worse than that, even with mil. spec. stuff. It pays to be aware of what we are working with. That would not have chambered in a Mod.17 either. I save my rejects, and the pile is not huge.

Is that ding on the rim a dent or a puncture? I'm a wee bit surprised the round didn't detonate at the factory during such dramatic abuse.
 
.22 LR ammo is tougher than we thought! If you could get it to chamber, I bet it would discharge.............
