ID a Grip

Puzzled figuring out what SW frame size these grips will fit. The owner of the LGS where I bought them thought they were for Square Butt N frame but was not sure.

The first pix is of my 29-3 with stock grips. The 2nd pix is the same 29-3 but with the questionable grips. Note how the fit is just not right. The curve of the grip is just not right for the gun.

The last pix is of the inside of the questionable grips. Marked on the right side grip is "153" in the center of the grip and at the bottom a date of Feb 20 1992. I also tried these grips on my 686 L frame but they did not fit well on it either.

So any ideas as what SW frame size these are for?

I would guess L frame, since they have a speedloader cut out. Similar grips on my 686 shown below....... from about that same time period.

K/L frame. If they fit poorly on your 686, that may be why they were being sold off a gun.

You could be right that they are just poor fitting grips.
