I was given an S&W revolver today by a friend. It hadn't been cleaned or lubed in so long the cylinder barely rotated much less spinned. The hammer was real hard to pull back. I cleaned it up, scrubbed the bore and lubed the center of the cylinder. Now it spins freely and hammer pulls back just fine. It's in decent shape too. Someone has at some point put Pachymayr grips on it.I suspect it was once a policeman's gun.
You guys helped me identify a 1938 .38 S&W Terrier my dad left me last year. I was wondering if anyone can tell me something from the serial number. D178xxx. Thanks in advance for any info.

It's a fixed sight K frame, circa 1970. Swing the cylinder open and look for the model marking. Odds are it's a Model 10-5.
